I had a cheese and chutney toasted sanga, some berry yoghurt with crumble on top, a nice slice of frittata, and washed down with a nice cappuccino, all thanks to the Qantas team before my flight to Perth 🦘 Got a beef and stout pie with some ded ‘orse on the plane for lunch which was bloody grouse.

Don't be silly - there's no 'industry' to shake up because Uber doesn't employ any of the delivery people! You'd have to be a legendary buffoon to think so, no, these people carrying branded bags and branded cars and being contacted through a proprietary app are in fact entrepreneurs, doing their side hustle to make their way up the ladder in life! All poor little Uber does is offer a service facilitating the connection between restaurants, consumers and these savvy business-people who like making sub-minimum wage and getting killed occasionally! https://labourlawdownunder.com.au/?p=846 https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/decisionssigned/html/2020fwcfb1698.htm [edit] Imagine I said all that in the voice Cartman puts on when talking about student athletes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XEq6XYtMVU

I'm torn on it. On the one hand Sydney hates cyclists for some reason and generally seems to drive like cyclists are deeply and personally offensive to them. On the other hand a lot of the delivery riders (particularly the scooter ones) seem to behave in a manner likely to result in an accident and I'm surprised it's not happening more. The contractor based delivery systems are undeniably poo poo though and those guys are risking their lives to earn a pittance delivering takeaway to those that have.

A lot of delivery riders are inexperienced around cars and people drive much worse on their way home from work when there are also more food deliveries going on. I don't blame the riders though, there's no other jobs for them

I was driving to my Mrs place from mine (Sutherland to Toongabbie) one Friday night and was just about to take the A28 exit (Cumberland Hwy). Without word of a lie, I watched an uber eats driver cut across from the right lane, across the divider strip between the exit and the motorway, in front of a semi on the motorway and in front of the car in front of me on the exit, he then went into the centre left lane (4 lanes, 2 go left and 2 right, he was on the inner one going left). He then decided he was gonna turn right, so cut across two lanes of right turning traffic without so much as a hand signal or anything, and back into the turning lane to go eastbound on the M4. How he survived is still a mystery but I leant fairly loving hard into my horn when he cut across my front end cos I nearly cleaned him up. The issue at hand isn't entirely one, but a lack of understanding of the area and of road rules and common sense definitely were high on the list
|
# ? Nov 24, 2020 08:29 |
To be quite fair that particular issue of not understanding roads and common sense isn't isolated to the uber eats driver population, plenty of bad driving goes on every day.

They're being exploited and it's absolutely grotesque.

To be honest they don't seem to take as many risks as a lot of cyclists with regards to speed and running reds, except the nature of the job means they have to check their navigation app and figure out their route while they're on the road, with parked cars to door you on your left and impatient commuter cars and trucks on your right that's pretty risky. If they didn't have the time pressure that wouldn't be an issue
