Really? Not aware of the issue. I played it last month and never noted a problem so I assumed it was fine. That's a bummer. Is the issue a Steam problem or other platforms too? I've have it on GOG

I doubt it's a Steam issue; I'm on linux and the other people are all presumably on windows, and the ingame issue is with hangs and gfx glitches. After signing up for a paradox account in order to make a bug report (they really did make this as inconvenient as possible...) the tech support I got kept asking for dxdiag output, lol. The game has a native linux client, btw.

I just walked away after that and left it with another deservedly poor review. It only cost me a few dollars and it's not worth gnashing my teeth over. Lesson learn boys: If something gets review 'bombed' on Steam regarding tech issues, it's not a 'bomb', there are real issues and you should be wary.

But most of all, you cheated BABA

Why didn't you open your complaint by saying you're on linux? A game not working on linux is practically the default.

Also, IIRC Battletech got review-bombed because it dared to have nonbinary pronouns in its character-selector or something like that.

I mean, if you're a successful actress and you go out of the house in a skirt and without underwear, knowing that paparazzi are just waiting for opportunities like this and that it has happened many times before, then there's really nobody you can blame for it but yourself.
For anyone who has played it: is Metal Unit as horny as the store page make it look? The gameplay looks appealing, but the way the player character is in a stereotypical T'n'A pose and looks like she's fondling her nipple in the Steam screenshots is kinda turning me off of it.

Again, because the bug I encountered had literally nothing to do with linux; it was an internal error that windows users where getting also, and en masse. I don't remember reading any poor reviews (when I was looking to get the game) regarding gender pronouns; everyone was bitching about it being buggy in the top-rated and most-recent reviews, and I foolishly decided to give it a go.

I'd like to contrast this to other products with actually good customer support; I've had tickets handled promptly from other AAA titles, and indie devs scouring the steam forums (and other forums! SA!) for bugs and giving alarmingly prompt personalized responses. Those game also tended to have positive reviews (and a lack of big-realted negative ones), I wonder about that correlation, eh?

I got battletech in the summer sale put 100ish hours into it. Biggest problem was after a couple hours itd start running slow, restart always fixed it. It crashed on me twice in the 100 hours i played but it was extremely annoying since it happened at the end of a mission both times forcing me to replay from the start

The city maps added by the dlc can lag pretty hard sometimes in Battletech. Turning some settings down helps for those.

BPM: Bullets Per Minute is on sale for $15.26 CDN. The idea of a rhythym-based rogue-like FPS is interesting, but I've also heard that the gameplay is very swingy even for a rogue-like, you only have one weapon at a time, and that the game is one-step above an asset flip, which they try and disguise with some harsh red-orange filters.

What do people think of it, and have there been any patches/upates since the game's launch?

I really enjoy it and pull it out once in a while still. There's a very real in-the-zone feeling you get as you shoot, dodge, and reload to the beat. Dropping in bullets into the chamber as a hard guitar riff comes in with some really loud drums is an excellent feeling that's hard to replicate elsewhere. It sounds like Necrodancer, but the main difference is basic movement aka WASD is not timed to the beat, you can walk around as much as you want, only those other actions are beat-based.

The guns feel great and there's a decent enough range. Revolvers that need to be reloaded one by one, a minigun that takes a few beats to rev up but tears through everyone, pistols that can shoot at healf beats, different types of reloading that take different amounts of time...there's a lot of variety here, and probably the game's best part. It's fun to get a new gun and see what kind of beat restrictions you're going to get.

But! It's absolutely true that you only get one main gun, and generally speaking, you'll be buying them in the shop. This means that on runs where I'm doing well, I actually feel discouraged to buy new guns because my current one is so good and there's a chance that I will need my money for health or other upgrades instead.

Enemies are okay. I don't really know too much about asset flips but they didn't bother me, though they were mostly generic. A lot of them attack to a beat as well, so you can almost predict their behaviour. Damage is pretty high though, and that makes small pesky fly-type enemies that shoot bullets a real pain and one of the most dangerous in the game.

Bosses are good bunch. Different sizes, different types of attacks. How you finish them after their life bar is depleted is excellent. The music becomes muffled, and each shot you shoot will play a guitar riff as the boss writhes in agony, in whatever timing you like.

I'm reaching the opinion that the roguelike structure sort of hurts the game a bit. There's not enough variety in rooms and environments and especially items to collect. I also feel like the game could ramp up a bit faster, since the main upgrade for me is always the Gun and you Only Carry One.

For the graphics, by default the filter is Too Much, but you can tone that down in the settings. A more monochrome and less saturated colour scheme was much more pleasant to my eyes, and made for more readable gameplay too.

There have been updates but afaik it's mostly bug fixes.

After all that, I'd say if the concept sounds good, you should get it and play it; the timing to the beat makes it fun in a way other FPS aren't. But you're also not going to get that feeling of Ooh Shiny that a lot of other roguelikes have as there just isn't enough variety for that. And it's not quite polished enough to get that arcade-like feeling of hitting yourself over the head while you hone your skills till you perfect it.

You'll know in two hours if it's worth it for sure. It's just that you might see most of what you think is interesting in 6 or so.

Ever since I joined SA I stopped looking at journalist game reviews. All I do is basically look at these forums and the steam reviews to get an idea of what the game is like. The latter has the added benefit of floating useful reviews to the top so I can see any dealbreakers which might affect me but not others.

That said, lately I’ve been watching reviews from this YouTuber named Mandalore. His reviews are pretty enjoyable. Good insight, great music selection, no annoying voice or Youtuber personality. I still have some reservations about it, I think it's ugly as gently caress and not as well designed as it could be when it comes to basic gameplay controls stuff, but I think it's good enough that people who enjoy Rimworld will probably enjoy it too. I'd buy it cheap and give it a try either today with the super sekret english beta (enter the code gsqenglishtest in the Beta section of the game's Steam properties) or tomorrow when the full, natively English release is supposed to come out.

:siren: Do not attempt to do the tutorials listed in the Tutorial section! They'll eat up like an hour and a half of your refund period and a lot of the material included you won't even see in the actual game for many hours. Just play the game normally, it includes its own introductory prologue and mini-tutorials.

I decided to pick it up and try it out for a while. It's probably to be expected from a new Rogue-like, but I'm finding it a little difficult. I have beaten the first boss once, then got to the second boss and died. I'm finding restarting to be a little frustrating because you always have the one gun and you usually can't get another gun, so it's the exact same gameplay over and over and that gets repetitive.

What's worse is that I died on the second boss, and haven't since been able to beat the first boss, which means that It'll take me a lot of attempts before I can even GET to the second boss, and probably a lot of tries before I can reliably beat them.

Gift for the grind, criminal mind shifty

Swift with the 9 through a 59FIFTY
I have an odd recommendation regarding theHunter: Call of the Wild and its DLC:

If you:
  • Want to get more money sorta quickly
  • Are discouraged by how hard it is to hunter other things
  • Want to play this "idly"/look at it every few minutes and do something productive (Because it turns out that you can't (normally) pause the game, even solo)
  • Want an easy way to get weapon experience

Then I heavily recommend the Goose Based DLC. While it's not super necessary for goose hunting, it simplifies it to the point of ridiculousness. With the setup from this gear, and the 20GA shotguns you get from this (or, preferrably, the SEMI AUTO 20GA shotguns from the Duck Based DLC), you literally lay there and occasionally call geese. Anywhere from 2-12 will show up and just plop around whatever decoys you lay around, in close proximity for anything from pistols to rifles, hell even archery. (I'm not good at getting more than 2 per wave, though).

:siren: The goose DLC comes with the "2019 bundle", if you're thinking about getting it. :siren:

Honestly, I'm playing this differently/in the incorrect mindset than intended, I'm sure, because I do love 'number go up! :woop:' with regards to cash, weapon XP, and hunter XP, but hot drat I don't seem to have the patience for tracking and killing the way this game does it (as opposed to, say RDR2). Hell, if anything I'm leveling up skills that'll make this easier. That said, I'm sitting on near 200k cash and I do not play very often. I'm unlocking more gear this way and despite it being almost a non-challenge, I'm having more fun with it than I ever did trudging and barely getting a couple kills an hour.

So if you have, or are thinking about the game, and don't want to feel completely hobbled from growth because you're a bad hunter like I am, get the goose DLC and look up how to goose hunt. It takes a very specific setup in (as far as I'm aware) just certain locations, but if you set one up, you'll have an easy-to-reach avenue for quick growth and murder conservation.

It's not a Linux issue. It's just that the game has a really shaky technical basis which, thanks to Unity's cross-platform nature, everyone gets to enjoy.
