Guyver posted:You can touch the tracks with the teeth (helps when a track slips the rollers) but not get the bucket under the tracks in any meaningful way. You can definitely get the bucket under the tracks in a meaningful way if you dig underneath yourself. Nothing like seeing an excavation collapse because someone literally dug away the ground beneath their feet.

Pretty sure Czarchasm is talking about walking the tracks onto the bucket in a harmful way not digging under them.

Yeah you can dig under the tracks if you're dumb but it isn't usually possible to drive into the bucket. Sometimes they can have some weird geometry, or someone has plain put in the wrong bucket and then all bets are off. Not that it would do much besides make A Noise as the tracks skipped off the bucket. Really the only problem I see in that video is the shock load right as he starts down the pile. The excavator hydraulics are more than strong enough to support its own weight but you risk blowing a seal when you drop the weight onto the bucket like that.

The weird thing is that after I leaned from this thread that you always need to reinforce your trenches, I've been checking out road construction when I go past, and they're usually really meticulous about using heavy-duty steel walls. I'm surprised this happened really

https://i.imgur.com/EhNwaSQ.mp4 I know splitting lanes is legal in some states but I’m guessing you’re not supposed to do it that fast...

Yep, and that there video is a perfect example of why. Even in a state like California where people are used to seeing motorcycles splitting lanes, nobody is expecting -- or can realistically react to -- a bike that comes out of nowhere and passes in the blink of an eye. There is no official rule in California for how lane-splitting should be performed, giving the police the authority to arrest anyone who they think is being dangerous. The rule I follow is never more than 10mph above traffic speed and never when traffic is moving more than 30mph. There's no reason to split lanes on the freeway if it's moving.

well the reason is to be a cool billy badass who gets an adrenaline rush by taunting death in traffic this is why i wasn't too surprised about the covid-fest known as sturgis. not all motorcycle guys are irresponsible, there are plenty of bike dudes who take sensible precautions for their own safety and the safety of others. but on the other hand, when i think of someone living a healthy and responsible lifestyle, i don't think "small town midwesterner who owns a harley"

Here in Oz lane splitting is illegal. But "lane filtering" (i.e. lane splitting at 30kph or less) is totally legal.

A quick search indicates that California is the only state where lane splitting is legal. In Oregon a bill was floated last year to allow it under specific circumstances, but it died in committee, I think. Utah apparently was considering one, too. The proposed rules for Oregon were similar to what you set for yourself, but a little slower and more restrictive. The real intent was for motorcycles to be able to keep moving when freeway traffic got held up, like going less than 20mph, so it was pretty narrow.
