Also, regarding herding instinct, my brother has confirmed children are an adequate substitute for sheep. For years the dog would run around the house at bedtime gathering his kids and driving them toward the bedroom.

I'll try to see if I can get some video, but brother is weird about the kids being on the internet (don't really blame him).

Yeah, collies are so ridiculously smart that they are wonderful baby-sitters and will happily channel that energy into keeping children safe.

The advice I got with working dogs isn't play with them all the time, it's give them a job. They are wired to not be happy unless they are responsible for something, and all the playing and stuff is just a substitute

poo poo, if UBI ever becomes a thing I'll quit my job in a heartbeat and do nothing but take college history classes, work on old cars, and get super good at cooking. Kinda like the "I used to have to walk to school" mentality. If you had to suffer through something you don't wanna see other people get the same result easier.

Those are actually all useful things. Having people with that knowledge and those practical skills is a benefit to society, partly because you will end up helping people with them.

E: the problem with unrestrained capitalism is that it reduces the value of something to society to the dollar sign amount that is involved, which makes arts and history worth significantly less than they actually should be to society

Oh I know, but I don't know them well enough to do them for a living. If I didn't have to worry about feeding or housing myself I could focus on them, get super loving good at them, and then teach/help others. It's a shame UBI won't ever come in our lifetimes, but it would be neat if it did.

Yeah, thats the thing about UBI. It would free us of having to work RIGHT NOW so we can get better and do way better work later. Shame about people who believe religiously that anything less than working constantly til you are sick from it is an affront to god.
