It's absolutely something I would have argued about if he mentioned reverse racism or whatever, I just don't remember it at all.

That's because reforming people is actually a long process that requires working on people socially and emotionally more than just presenting facts and logical arguments. You can't deconstruct a worldview in one conversation, particularly if it's hostile and/or they're very conflict adverse.
