Facebook Aunt posted:For our American friends, imagine pecan pie. Now instead of pie it is tarts. Still with me? Okay, no remove all the pecans. Butter Tarts are tiny pecan pies made without pecans. This is how Canada do. I gotta disagree with you there. It's not strictly "traditional" but pecans, raisins, and walnuts are all standard toppings on butter tarts (as well as weird poo poo like candied bacon or whatever). They also differ from pecan pie due to a lack of corn starch in the crust. It's nothing mindblowing but butter tarts are very good imo. e: uhhh funny tax - damn horror queefs has a new favorite as of 01:44 on Dec 5, 2020 |

From the context of being hard, minable, edible, and sweet I assumed it was some sort of hard syrup candy like sad Dickensian ragamuffins would eat that tastes like total poo poo but they don't know any better.

Who What Now posted:From the context of being hard, minable, edible, and sweet I assumed it was some sort of hard syrup candy like sad Dickensian ragamuffins would eat that tastes like total poo poo but they don't know any better. Treacle is a syrup, it's just a catch-all name for refined sugar that isn't crystallised. Golden syrup and molasses are both types of treacle. And the treacle mines in Discworld use pumps and buckets to get the goodies, it's more oil extraction than hard-rock mining.

Yellow Yoshi posted:traditionally treacle tart is made from treacle Brown sugar, mostly. Sometimes brown sugar and maple syrup or brown sugar and corn syrup. 3/4 cup (165g) packed brown sugar 1/3 cup (75g) unsalted butter 1 tbsp (15ml) table or whipping cream 1 tsp (5ml) vanilla extract 1 large egg OR 1/2 cup of lightly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup of maple syrup 1/4 cup butter, softened 1 egg slightly beaten 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 tsp salt 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional) OR 1/2 cup lightly packed brown sugar 1/2 cup corn syrup 1/4 cup butter, melted 1 egg 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/4 tsp salt ½ cup raisins, substituting, pecans, walnuts or chocolate chips also make good variations To bring this back on topic I will now look for funny pictures related to butter tarts. Wish me luck. I'm sorry everyone, I failed.
