Let me tell you about my opinion about Bernie Sanders and why Donald Trump is his true successor.

You cannot vote Hillary Clinton because she is worse than Trump.
Someone at the state department thought they could snag citgo by swapping a bond that would never be paid (sanctioned then couped) for citgo equity. the state department convinced these 8 jokers they would receive a large stake if they could convince their executive to make the deal. 2 jokers ended up ratting them out to the Venezuela government. Venezuela invited them to make the deal , but instead were met with Chavez's ghost and quickly arrested. The jokers were probably hesitant to visit Venezuela since the government was cracking down on corruption, but couldn't resist the thought of becoming multi-millionaries, and they probably had some assurance that the US was going to get rid of Maduro anyways, so if they got arrested, they'll soon be released by the new US friendly government. That's when everything went wrong.....

The state department hosed up the coup and now they're stuck with the failson Guiado. The US still wanted to seize Citgo so they "handed" it over to Guiado, and now citgo is currently in some-sort-of financial flux. Guiado sort-of-owns-it but has no access to revenue. Now that it's up on the chopping block, every western company that lost a cent in venezuala want Citgo equity to recover their "costs". Literally shock doctrine, but the state department hosed up so bad they can't handle stealing assets on their own drat soil.
https://www.argusmedia.com/en/news/2108248-us-court-clears-sale-of-citgo-shares?backToResults=true

It's amazing that the Citgo 6 are framed as going to an "emergency work meeting", or a "business meeting". But no details are provided. as if they were hoodwinked to go down to Venezuela to chat about pipes and valves. Just regular daddies that want to go home and see their daughters. not involved in any sort of skeezy business. they are one of the good ones.

I love how no input by Venezuela was sought for this article. We’re just told their loved ones see it as a frame up. Now we’re of course not good therefore it is a frame up but as we are only told one perspective it is easy to come to that conclusion.

None of those show match ups against Jadue, who iirc is super popular

he's still in right?

Late but those match-ups are all scenarios for a second-round presidential runoff (all chilean presidential elections have been decided by a runoff vote since 1999. and it does not appear that this will be the exception, no matter who runs), so they're all assuming it's decided between left (+ center-left) and right (+ center-right). These are far easier to poll, too, since otherwise you gotta poll for first round or primary elections, where the numbers jump so much depending on which names you include that they become almost meaningless.

Here's two scenarios where Jiles and Jadue face each other in a primary. First one's assuming the Communist Party and the FA (Broad Front, the coalition Jiles belongs to) hold a united primary, which is a pretty big if, since the PC is not currently part of the FA. Blue is all left + center-left aligned voters, purple is likely voters in a PC+FA primary.

The second's a broad primary of the entire opposition. lmao at Vidal and Rincón being the best the ex-NM has to offer, jesus loving christ almighty

I've seen no reliable polls about possible first-round lineups, mainly because it's too early to know which candidates are going to primaries (or to which primaries, in the case of the left). Primaries are a relatively new institution in chilean politics, and for this particular election they'd be organized in a particularly loosey-goosey fashion, with the possibility of candidates primarying together despite belonging to different political coalitions, or to no coalition at all (since all coalitions appear to be collapsing at the moment).

Here's Jadue polling against possible right-wing candidates - his numbers are actually a little better than I expected, but it's still way too early to take the polls too seriously. I'd wait until after the constitutional assembly elections (April 2021) before getting into serious pollbrain poo poo.

Here's Jiles against the same candidates - undeniably better numbers, but her base of support might be more fickle. Hell, there was an attempt to milkshake duck her just the other day.

TLDR - It's too early to tell and things will likely come down to who goes to which primary, but both Jiles and Jadue have a decent chance of making it to the runoff, where Jiles would likely perform better, but it's still up in the air.

Andres Arauz is running against Lenin Moreno if he doesn't get banned from running. He's the guy backed by Correa and they Moreno's regime has been trying to block any left opposition from standing in elections, forced them to re-register into different parties to get around bans etc, but last I heard Arauz is still eligible.

Venezuelan election today. The National Assembly seat of Juan Guaido is up for grabs, although the interim president (who was never elected to that role) is not running and is urging voters to stay home, so he can be not elected to the assembly either. It’s all part of the effort to bring democracy back to Venezuela.

Any information on the communist party not being allowed to run in the elections?

Seems like the Venezuelan Communist Party was unable to get media coverage prior to the election.
https://www.idcommunism.com/2020/11/venezuelas-communist-party-denounces-censorship-ahead-of-december-6th-election.html

and there was a raid on a local party headquarters a few hours ago

edit:
the communist party twitter feed is a bunch of retweets of their candidates and coalition allies voting, so they did get to run

So left parties have taken back the National Assembly. I'm a bit concerned that turnout is sort of low, but otherwise a good result.

I hope in the long run the Communists attempt at an independent coalition rooted in the working class to the left of the PSUV/GPP works out, so that the Right wing opposition isn't the only force that benefits from any dissatisfaction with the government.

Evo was an election observer today as well.
