Concatenation posted:That Japan guitars group does have some gold in it doesn’t it? If your talking about Matsumoku or Fujigen then yes, they made some real good stuff. They have some real crap as well. You just have to know what to look for since these manufacturers made a lot of different quality guitars under alot of different names. I think they hit their stride with the late 70's early 80's stuff. I would never pay 550 for that guitar. I can just tell the tuners suck and it just looks goofy. Also you could probably get a real 80's or 90's MIJ Bc Rich for around the same price especially if you find it off reverb. Lots of vintage gear for sale on that site is overpriced.

I just restrung my acoustic guitar. The stupid music poo poo is that the last time I did so, I decided to childproof it by putting the strings on the wrong way, with the ball ends on at the head. The idea was that there would be no sharp cut off point to injure the baby. That part worked I guess. But I had to tie the strings under the bridge, which really sucked at the time, and it turns out that the length required for the knots rattled when played or moved. Also it took forever to tie them well enough to get them to sit straight and not go out of tune. It also ment that i had to either untie said knots or cut the strings to get them off. I ended up cutting despite disliking to do so, because untying knots on guitar strings that are poking through the soundhole sucks. I have now restrung it the way God intended, and if my kid ends up hurting himself, so be it.

Cut the strings to like 1/2 inch then jam a pencil eraser on each sharp bit. Make a video doing it with some background ukulele and get some views

My daughter's First Act guitar has these caps over the tuning machines, which I thought was a pretty neat idea, I wonder if these exist for full sized guitars? The guitar itself is pretty garbage (oh God that string pull through the nut, Gibson eat your heart out) but it's kid sized and holds tune for a couple minutes which is about all she really needs.

Yeah, after I posted that, I tuned it and started jamming on it. It works for that, but I wouldn't say it's giggable.

today's stupid music poo poo is that I got a POG2 because I'm always in the mood for generating ridiculous sounds with my guitar 90% of what I've done with it so far tho, after futzing around with various cathedral organ type sounds, is just potting up octave -1 and playing fake bass with it I could have just bought a cheap bass for like half what I paid for this thing

Octavers are fun as hell. One of my go to sounds back in my old post-punk band was a Danelectro French Toast set to 75% dry and sub 1, 33% sub 2 into nasty silicon fuzzes. It really added a little extra spice to our cover of Lovefool.

It'd be cool but Dan Erlewine's macguver school of guitar repair probably doesn't jive well with StewMac's model of "selling 1000 dollars of wood to people with too much money"

Nah they always figured out a way to feature some tool he was using in the trade secret videos as a tool you can't live without. His book is real good on how to properly set up guitars from an era before YouTube.

Jesus, I'm glad I live in the Socialist Hellhole of Australia. I've been in hospital twice this year (nothing COVID) and am glad I have not been financially destroyed. On a brighter note, that Ice-troyer is super sweet. My personal stupid music poo poo is that the Explorer shape is about the best guitar (and bass) shape ever. The Destroyer shape is better and the Peavey Rotor is best, but that Ice-troyer has me wavering.
