See I would just competently call Reiss Nelson a racist, sack him, be reluctantly forced to unsack him due to his contract, ban him from playing, and then ban all the fans from discussing football.

Arsenal are already rejecting divisive punch-and-judy football-as-usual and actively engaging with other teams to try and find mutually-beneficial solutions rather than endlessly focusing on childish gestures like "winning", not sure what else he can add to them. nate from trash future is quite cool but the show itself just seems to be a redo of the jokes that were on a chapo episode like 3 weeks ago. cannot vibe with it.

I've felt the opposite - when I've listened to Chapo in general it just doesn't seem interesting or funny. I've heard some of the individual members being quite good on other shows though. With TF Riley often has interesting stuff to say and Milo is really funny, but for a long run Alice seemed intent on just constantly speaking over everyone else with rewarmed jokes. She's calmed down a bit recently and it's got a lot better again for it IMO. I do really like the Milo and Nate Britainology episodes, and wish Riley would do some more commie book clubs. Also seems like Hussein is on it less and less and when he is he doesn't say much (I saw that PiP's own Rob is on 10,000 Posts this week though).

Colorado had a program that did exactly that and prevented at least 100,000 abortions. Speaking as someone who suffered extremely badly from an IUD which I had age 19 and bled very heavily for a year with my GP keep saying 'it will settle down' (I spent my second year at uni crawling from loo to loo in severe pain instead of lectures) until I begged her to take the darn thing out and then some 25 years later had an internal problem directly as a result that cost my work health insurance about £3k or more to get sorted privately because my GP was 'its your hormones deary' (but it wasn't) IUD are not a panacea. (And I'm a reasonably intelligent and articulate person with a Dr title which means GP treat me as 14 instead of 3). God help those who aren't. I'd have probably died otherwise.

There probably isn't any single panacea, I've known plenty of people that have had horrendous side effects with hormonal birth control too, which is a reason why I think Colorado went with something that non-hormonal, effective, and doesn't require any change in behavior. Doctors believing patients is a separate but related issue. The only other way you could do it is vasectomize all babies with a vas deferens and reverse it on request, and good luck getting that past the pro-lifers, at least this would just be a letter that gets sent out offering an option.

Women just need to have options (ideally at least 2-3 different ones), and for it to be as easy as possible for them to speak to someone qualified about those options, so that they can make up their own mind. It can be very difficult for some young women to access contraceptive services, either through their GP (particularly if there's a non-zero chance they'll be recognised and questions will be asked) or through other local services, like sexual health clinics. But really, the people trying to reduce young women's body autonomy don't actually care about the wellbeing of those young women. They're just spiteful quasi-religious 'moralists' who get off on controlling other people's lives.

It’s really shocking how women are still treated when it comes to reproductive agency. I wanted to get a vasectomy and it involved asking my GP, who referred me to a specialist, who basically asked “you sure?”, made me watch a hilariously old educational video, and then scheduled the surgery. My partner wants a tubal ligation and has gone into the doctors’ office several times armed with a literal binder full of stats and facts to bolster her case and to rebuff the claims of “oh but you’ll change your mind” and still gets talked down to and basically told to take the coil (which she doesn’t want) or nothing. The doctors even had the gall to ask her what her partner (i.e. me) would think of her getting sterilised as if that should have any loving relevance at all.

I was going to say maybe one is more permanent than the other but a quick google seems to quote similar reversal success rates for the two procedures.

I wanted to get a vasectomy and it involved asking my GP, who referred me to a specialist, who basically asked “you sure?”, made me watch a hilariously old educational video, and then scheduled the surgery. Part of that is because a vasectomy is a minor surgery* requiring only local anaesthetic and only a small incision in a very conveniently-placed bit of skin, compared to tubal ligation which requires two abdominal incisions under general anaesthetic, with far less chance of complications, and is also much more easily reversible**. I don't doubt that some part of the difference in attitude is patriarchal, but you're comparing apples and oranges (or plums and... actually I can't think of a funny fruit-based name for an ovary) from a strictly medical point of view. * Especially in your case! Geddit?!?!?! ** including spontaneously, which is why I'm here. Seriously, I have siblings that are 9, 10, and 11 years older than me. My parents joked that it was because they got a telly after my sister was born, but TV was particularly boring in the seventies. I only found out the real story many, many years later.

Blu rays don’t tend to suddenly vanish from your catalogue because a licence agreement has expired.

I still actually buy dvds from time to time. I have stubborn feelings about Owning Things, and blu ray drives are expensive and apparently a bastard to get working on linux. i am fully aware this is a very grumpy and goon way of living. admittedly during the pandemic I have finally relented on joining some streaming services but i would like to not join twenty-seven different ones for each thing I want to watch (also not give money to Amazon if I don't have to). harumph bah humbug get off my lawn

Gort posted:Anyone got genius Christmas present ideas? Feeling particularly clueless this year. I would try buying things the recipient is likely to enjoy, OP. Like one of my Christmas presents is a 3D-printed replica of the frame that was around the peephole in Monica's apartment in Friends, for my niece-in-law who loves the show, and that's (IMO) a pretty genius Christmas present because it's definitely something she'd never think to buy for herself (especially as "official" ones cost like 20 quid) but for someone who doesn't like Friends it's a pretty poo poo idea. My normal present-selection method is actually a bit dangerously close to product management - I try to boil the personality and interests of the person I'm buying for down to 3-5 words. If I can't manage that because I don't know them well enough then vouchers, if I can I then try and pick something that hits two or three of those words (you'd be surprised just how far you can get by just typing them into Google or in my case since I picked up the 3D printing bug into Thingiverse). Of course taking that too far is how you get those "I'm a WELDER born in MARCH and I love BOLTON and if that offends you KISS MY rear end" t-shirts, but with a bit of discernment it's generally a fairly painless way of finding pressies that aren't just completely generic. One drawback I've had this year is of course I've not spoken to people anything much as like as normal so every time I have a great idea I have to double-check I didn't buy them the same present last year. The hit rate was like 60% this year, lol.
