Every dollar that American's would otherwise be spending taking their kids to get a lovely burger at Applebee's is going to take-out places and supermarkets, no poo poo they're raking in record profits. They basically absorbed an entire industry. I think one of my friends who works at Whole Foods got a temporary $2 / hour pay raise that expired months ago. They also gave her no paid time off after she had a baby last month and are on the verge of firing her if she doesn't pick up hours again soon

We should be encouraging the development of new recreational drugs to replace the old problematic drugs in our lives. Drugs that make you feel nice and loose and pro-social, but don't leave a hangover or develop dependencies. Maybe if you take too much, you just fall asleep before you can OD. You could also develop mild hallucinogens that give you a trippy visual experience for a few hours, then wears off gently, no harsh comedown. Fun for a party or a concert or a night at home staring at swarms of spiders on the ceiling with the whole family. Save the heavy entheogens for guided therapy sessions.
