Muk Dumpster posted:I couldn't imagine giving bobs burgers a chance,:it looks so drab I'd say only the first few episodes are drab. By season 2 or 3 it's all nice and uplifting. It's just, almost entirely forgettable. You watch, have a few laughs, it might cheer you up, and then you never think about that episode again. This might be a hot take, but I would say this applies to the bulk of King of the Hill, too. Typically very good, almost never bad, but largely following a strict formula. Both shows are comfort food TV for me.

Hey, remember Nelson's henchboys who pretty much only appeared with him in his first episode and then became stock background kids (apparently they're called 'the weasels')? I saw an episode a while back where Nelson ran into them at a bully convention and asked them how they'd been. Apparently they transferred to Shelbyville Elementary. I'm pretty sure they still show up in Springfield Elementary in group shots, but no matter. Also their voices were crazy different. Anyway, I'm sure you're glad to have heard an update from the weasels after 30 or so years.

PostNouveau posted:In the new one, Lisa gets a B- on her project about Gladys West, who's some mathematician or something, so she gets into a feud with Ms. Hoover and sent to detention until she apologizes. (There is a rap about Gladys West.) Lisa tries a few tactics to get over it, but eventually follows Hoover home and realizes that her life is stupendously sad and feels bad for making it harder. She gives her a back-massaging chair as an apology. I watched this episode because I hadn't seen a new episode in so long, and I was curious if it was really that bad... and yeah, this was incompetent. My biggest problem is that the apology doesn't make sense. Ms. Hoover is a bad teacher and a hack. But because her life is hard, Lisa should apologize for that? It just feels patronizing. Instead of addressing the real issues, the show has Lisa buying a nice chair. It's an easy out, but it doesn't make sense. The moral feels tacked on, and the show lacks any real bite. And it's clear that they they were running short since there are two back-to-back cutaways that just illustrate the joke they just drew. And then there's a long bit with a Yale choir that has Mr. Burns dancing with someone for some reason. How do you produce a show like this? They must look at the legacy and know that they are trashing an iconic show.

Yeah that's legit a scene that happened. The episode frames Burns as the sensible one in the interaction, and that it's ridiculous that people would identify as pansexual, or that some Halloween costumes can be racist, etc. The episode ends with the SJW students being literal robots.

If they made the dental plan episode today Lisa would only want braces to impress a tooth obsessed boy, Marge would refuse a payment plan that's affordable because she wants a frivolous purchase for herself, cutting the dental plan would be all it takes to keep the plant from going bankrupt, and the resolution would be a celebrity guest doing free orthodontics for the whole town.

Didn't a few weeks ago they release an episode that came to the conclusion that unions were bad because employees are lazy and need a stern boss to keep them in line? Seems like they won't end The Simpsons until they make an episode that refutes every single one from the good era.
