And you would be right. They were really just a show where touring stand ups would come in promote their local gig and would do some material. The Bob and Tom would take these bits and release Best Of CDs "for charity. Its basically "Boomer FM"

Yeah, I read it yesterday. Sounds believable to me. I think there are a number of whiners that have not accomplished anything since they left the show and have tried to make cash off of their complaining, but I totally believe that he is lovely and anyone below Gary's seniority makes pretty poo poo pay compared to the value of the show.

That is totally the point. He definitely exploits anyone who will let him (as long as they are entertaining) and he deserves credit for that, but he would never step up and pay what is "deserved" vs what is "owed." There is a good reason why the family of whack packers never like Howard, while it is a mutually beneficial arrangement, he makes many millions while they made thousands. Artie was underpaid, but made up for it with the exposure he got for his shows. Robin and Fred get a small fraction of what he does but are essential for the show, but even the fraction is a big sum. Don't get me wrong, I love the show and Howard deserves to be plenty wealthy for what he has made, but there is no question 95% of the cash the show has made collectively has ended up his pocket.

Of course not. What could Howard possibly say? "Scott worked with us for 30 years, his wife died of cancer and I didn't help him, and then I fired him. Anything else, Robin?"

It seemed like they just sort of unpersoned him. I have to believe that this wasn't their intention, but it really did seem like they fired him after his wife died because they didn't feel comfortable goofing on the sadness of his life anymore. The timing was questionable, at best.

I can definitely understand why he got less air time as he probably didn't want to be given any poo poo while dealing with the tragedy in his own life and it would have brought down the mood of the show. But it is definitely suspect that you never heard another word about him and that he doesn't work there anymore. He definitely didn't just retire with his endless wealth...

I'm pretty sure this is why they (eventually) got rid of Artie. It wasn't fun any more, so he could no longer exist.

It's a mix. That last year of the show (09) he pretty much hit rock bottom then left to seek real treatment... but apparently never did. His suicide attempt is clearly related to the show re-upping and him likely being told there was no chance he would return. He talked a lot of poo poo about Howard (some of it definitely deserved) in the years since, so they don't bring him up anymore. The fans deserve to have a clean Artie interview, but Howard would never do it because there would definitely be some tough moments and he doesn't do that anymore.

Are there any clean ex-staffer interviews? I mean, it seems like Howard only ever had Jackie on his show so that he could belittle & berate him for having the audacity to leave the show. If Artie did an interview, Howard couldn't exactly be like "lol you tried to kill yourself what a stupid career move that was".

I'm pretty sure I recall Tim Sabian deciding to axe Artie due to him skin popping during breaks and then nodding on air, for weeks.

I'd LOVE to hear Sober Artie on the show but it will never happen. If it does, it will be a total kiss rear end session because God forbid Howard be confronted about mistakes he made.

Skin popping is when you put small amounts of heroin just below the skin rather than actually injecting it. If you've ever had an allergy test, that would be a like "skin popping" allergens. My understanding is that it doesn't get you very high, but is good at either extending a high or keeping withdrawals at bay until you can get a proper fix.

I had no idea anyone claimed Artie was using in studio though. That's pretty bad.

Yeah, Jackie is the only one I could name. He and Howard made up and Jackie got his show to promote his crap. The interview was definitely a beat down, but not a bad listen.

I think some people took random YouTube clips and showed where it was possible he was snorting a bit or moving his hand off camera that looked like it.

I do recall one morning when they took a break after a 90 minute interview and no one could find Artie as they started the news. Then he came in late, saying he was getting food or whatever, and proceeded to fall asleep 20 minutes later. He might talk about this in one of his books.

Oh and he was late to Gary's father's funeral because he had to score some poo poo first.

I'm pretty sure some of the fringe staffers/interns have gotten to come back for an interview later on. Gay Rich is one who comes to mind.

They did a check-in with KC when he was living in Alaska, didn't they? Or was that just on the news and not during the main show?

This is going way, way back, but they had Boy Lee (the guy who had Baba Booey's job before Gary) back after the fact.

I'm positive they've had a few old employees (mainly some of the interesting interns,) return for an interview after leaving the show. But besides maybe KC, I wouldn't compare them to Artie's absence. He and Howard burnt that bridge together.

As for the skin popping discussion, I thought Artie said he'd never used needles but only snorted it because he was afraid of needle? I'd be willing to chalk it up to, "addicts gonna lie," and it's not like the delivery method changes my opinions of him very much.

He said that she straight up injected him with it, and iirc Robin was the only one who was actually like "wtf, that makes no sense" while the rest of the crew either believed him or didn't say anything.

There's a pretty big list of staff members they've had back on the show: Jackie, KC, Grillo, Mitch Fatel, Al Rosenberg, Boy Lee, Cabbie (not an official member of the show but close), and I think Gary Garver was on a couple times after they quit using him for celebrity interviews. They tried to get Billy West on but he was never interested. Stuttering John and Artie burned their bridges by badmouthing Howard in a bunch of interviews and Twitter.

It's more recent that Howard pretends like people don't exist after they get fired or laid off or whatever: HowardTV crew, Scott, Brent, etc. It's really callous and shameful.

Speaking of Cabbie, I've been listening to some Youtube clips of his appearances lately. Did he ever make an appearance again after Ron Jeremy revealed that Cabbie shot a porno in Howard's studio at K-Rock without permission?
