3D Megadoodoo posted:Are they original? The window frame seems to be accommodating them. I was just doing a dumb pun, BUT I did look it up, and found this out. According to the listing it's a 1770 home in Charleston, and quote:After suffering extensive damage during the earthquake of August 31, 1886, many Charleston buildings were rebuilt and reinforced with long iron stabilizing tie rods. The rods were inserted into and through the walls and anchored on the outside of the structure with iron bolts and plates. So maybe they did that and redid the trim at the same time? I don't know, but history is cool and thanks for making me curious.

I didn't want to be rude because it's the interior design thread, but that thing looks way too easy to fabricate from cheaper lamps, if you really wanted all the features.

Additional structures include an antique garage dated 1830 from Mount Airy, Georgia, a gorgeous 2-story guest house dated 1840 from Gordon, Georgia, and a unique outhouse dated 1840 from Jonesboro, Georgia." This feels...wrong, somehow, like a rich fucker just bought up a bunch of historic houses in the countryside and moved them to his suburban compound It's also described as a "goldmine for an investor". https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1001-Bay-St-Beaufort-SC-29902/198171269_zpid/ "George Elliott built this house in 1840. Looking at buying a house where the interior chimney bricks are a combination of brick and rough-edge stone... and have been painted white How feasible is it to strip the paint and restore a natural look (which, it must be said, we don't know what color it would be)? I feel very skeptical that stripping would result in nice natural porous looking stone, I have to imagine it would look weirdly smooth due to sanding (especially the rough/natural edge parts), but I'd be glad to be wrong. Otherwise, if we dig light natural colors, and if both sides of the chimney are big windows showing a wooded hill, what are some good options for painting over the white?

It's a little compartment in the wall where the milkman would leave bottles of milk. Or it's a euphemism for something that you can imagine for yourself.

If your abrasive media is harder than the stone beneath it then it'll also eat away the stone. Ideally it's just hard enough to chow down the paint and leave the stone in a natural state.

I wouldn't paint the chimney the same color. Any idea what rugs/furniture might be in there? I'd use those to find a coordinating color for the chimney since you want to change it anyway rather than trying to pick a color for it in isolation.
