According to their strategy it was explicitly to provoke the US into invading the Middle East so that al-Qaeda could use it to radicalise the population against the West with the long-term goal of involving the US in so many protracted conflicts that its economy would collapse, creating worldwide political instability. They were essentially accelerationists seeking to make things as bad as possible as quickly as possible so that people would agree with them.

So when someone with an otherwise excellent track record makes a couple of ill-advised posts, I'm inclined to believe it was just a lapse in judgement and not a sign that he was a secret rear end in a top hat this whole time.

I mean, it's perfectly possible and constantly demonstrated here of all places that even people who are capable of some level of self-awareness and insight can have blind spots, be unable to put aside personal feelings they have towards friends, or very everything from a perfectly ethical objectivebot viewpoint. I don't know what's going on and I don't think any of us would ever know. In these sorts of situations though, it's usually best to believe the victim unless some compelling evidence can be produced regarding why that's not the case. I don't remember which one it was but I saw a bit of a Santa Clause film where the plot was that a woman had to choose if they wanted to marry Tim Allen with the stakes being that Christmas would cease to exist if she refused and if she said yes Tim Allen would spontaneously gain the age and weight required to be santa right there in the church in front of everyone.

I know the premise is 'lifelong indentured servitude but with christmas magic' but at least Tim Allen committed a murder, what did this woman do to deserve any of that?

yeah. i love the idea that the loving Santa Clause clause is more twisted and hosed up than any thing that even Gaunter o'Dimm or the devil could come up with. also does she live forever like he does. i assume they outlive their kids or at least previous marriage kids. i feel like Santa is one of those things that suffers when movies/etc try to overexplain poo poo outside an origin. Rhino, you did this to me!

It's clear the elves have no attachment to the previous Santa Clause so he may have been recent enough (or Santa Clauses are just dropping like flies and they're used to the revolving door of Santas) that there was no Mrs. Clause this time. It takes close to a decade before the Mrs. clause comes into effect.

Yeah probably as I said I don't know the circumstances. Didn't want to minimize assault, its just we're talking about someone still being friends with someone who is still friends with someone who alegedly assaulted someone and like at a certain point you have accept that people aren't going to sever their friendships completely over what to them is essentially hearsay.

Also like a ton of other creators posted in this thread are friends with and do colabs with Todd. I know Dan was lovely about it itt but like why aren't we on everyone elses case about this?

The premise was a little different but, Sfdebris once wrote a horror story about someone being forced to be Santa. Could easily have been a great Twilight Zone episode.

We don’t talk about him much here, but James Rolfe just put out a year-end update video and mentions parenthetically that Mike Matei left the channel and won’t be appearing in any more videos. I haven’t watched anything cinemassacre has done for probably a year or more, but Mike was there from the beginning and I’m surprised to see him go with such little mention. It also seems like Rolfe just doesn’t have much enthusiasm for anything in this video, like he grew all the way up and just wants to be with his family and children now.

It’s weird because he set the tone for so much of what youtube videos were for so long by being in the right place at the right time, but the form has evolved so far beyond what he did that it seems like maybe he’d be better served by quitting and doing something else. It makes me kind of sad to watch.

...What? I mean he's not bouncing off the walls or anything (James' always been quite laid back and relaxed when he's doing videos like these), but he seems excited about all the different projects he's doing. Usually you can tell by the look in their eyes or body language if a person's not really into it (look at Spoony's later work for example), but James' showing none of that.

But yeah, wild that Matei's leaving. Dude's been there since day 1, I think, and has worked on a lot of Cinemassacre stuff.
