The media really should approach it from a FAA negligence angle, because who doesn't love articles about government incompetence. This would hopefully put pressure on FSDO to do something, because obviously the general aviation community doesn't have the required weight. And the FSDO does have more power over Jerry than mass media has. I mean the article wouldn't have to name Jerry at all, just tell how a local aviator regularly post YT videos of dangerous, reckless and illegal flying yet the FSDO does nothing, then go interview some FSDO official. Yeah, this is the place for your plucky young reporter trying to make a name for herself, like in a movie from the 70s about women in the workplace. She jumps some FSDO official with a microphone and camera as he's leaving the building, asking "why aren't you doing anything about this pilot all the other pilots agree is going to kill himself??" as he shoves the camera away and that goes on the weekly Dangerous Government Incompetence segment along with videos of Jerry doing his aerobatics. The FAA administrator sees the news and smashes his telephone to pieces and yells out the door for his secretary. The next time Jerry walks out to his plane he's met by a team of ramp checkers, the reporter gets a thank-you card from Jerry's wife and kids, and she's begrudgingly accepted by the old boys' club at the news station. Unfortunately I don't think it works that way in real life.

It strikes me as a "call the cops vs. don't call the cops" situation. In general, don't call the cops, but maybe if you have people creating a clear danger to human life and you've already tried other things and none have worked, then you should call the cops. This is eventually going to end in the death of him, his passengers, and innocent bystanders because he has a history of extremely poor airmanship and has demonstrated literally zero willingness to address any of the issues. In general, yeah, don't report some rando on YouTube to the FAA even if they might be doing some questionable poo poo; this is a special case, because it's a serious and recurring issue. How many aviation YouTubers do you see after an incident or a close call saying "yeah, I hosed up, here's what I did wrong and here's what I and you should do to avoid running into this situation again"? I wouldn't report someone for anything like that, even if they had indeed done a thing they should've known better about. Jerry is different because multiple people, including some in this thread, have reached out to him and tried to help him, but he's just like "nah I'm good, 50 degree bank turns to final are awesome! Let's go down to secondary minimums!"

He's right about here, heading south-southeast towards the bridge (you can see the tower he's dive-bombing in between the two 80s) which corresponds to this on the TAC  and his altimeter is showing about 600 feet  So the airspaces in that photo aren't all that relevant. At 600 feet he's in open (but controlled) class E airspace. He's got a code on his transponder, which means that he's probably in contact with NORCAL, so he's implicitly clear into the 1500-2999 foot OAK class C above him. He would need specific clearance into the 3000 foot SFO class B above that, but at 600 feet he's nowhere near either airspace. The relevant rule in this case is that you cannot fly lower than 1000 feet above the tallest obstacle within 2000 feet laterally. That would be the Bay Bridge towers, which according to the TAC are 520 feet MSL, meaning he needs to be at 1520 feet to approach them. He doesn't overfly them in the video; he pulls a sharp left turn and does a 180 away. It's hard to tell exactly how close he got to the tower but I would bet that it's closer than 2000 feet. Even if he was technically far enough away from the obstacle, performing what amounts to a strafing run on a major piece of public infrastructure in the downtown of a city is very obviously 14 CFR 91.13 careless and reckless operation. Jerry's leading a charmed life, for however much of it remains. Adding to the chorus: when he augers in, I hope he's alone & in a field somewhere. I can't believe his wife will voluntarily go up with him. e: the only flying I see around me like that (PHL) is this Cessna that stunt-flies up & down I-295 (about 3-NM east of the airport), I think checking power lines/catenaries. Stands on a wingtip, goes in a circle one way, levels out, repeats the other way as the A/C moves south. I'm alerted to its presence by the wild engine pitch changes. It’s nuts, I’m not pilot, I can just about fly an RC model plane but since you all pointed out his flight videos I watched them and had a think, especially the bridge video. I grew up near a small private runway, must have seen a hundred pilots land cessnas, and i was trying to think if I ever saw one as badly handled. Nope! Not even close.

They quite possibly don't know anything about flying and can't make correct judgments about what's safe -- q.v. front-seat passengers telling me that a normal landing feels like we're going to smash the plane into the ground. It's even more complicated when you consider that, say, a 50-degree steep turn is perfectly safe when you do it at altitude with a good buffer of airspeed, but extremely dangerous at 200AGL and approach speed. Your passengers just have to trust that you are flying well and not putting them in any danger. Jerry violates that trust.

You can do that with $100M jet engines in the back, and you still need to know an awful lot else you drop to 100 metres off the ground, pull back on the stick, and the wings won't generate enough lift until you're -50 metres under the ground because you should have been thinking about that 30 seconds ago.
