on a self-sustaining homestead-style commune the only job would be "farmhand" because subsistence farming those ~4 acres per person is a full time job all by itself

Collectivized industrial farming employing thousands was inevitable, the only question was who was going to reap the bounty. Zedhe Khoja has issued a correction as of 00:11 on Dec 22, 2020 |

I think the larger point is that, while self-sustaining agrarian communes are a romantic idea they can’t operate at the scale of a society without industrialization. sooner or later you have to answer the question “what about people in cities, the old and unable to work, people who live in inarable climates, etc?” At this point you need to either acknowledge that many will die, that your agrarian commune can only exist in an industrial-capitalist superstructure, or that your self-sufficient communes need to adopt industrial production methods to meet demand. it’s sort of the hippie equivalent of those tech guys who think 3D printers will replace industrial manufacturing.

Felix is the podcaster whose mental health i worry about the second-most after Jeremy Hammond, who recently was able to touch his baby's skin with his own skin for the first time and uploaded a wordless montage of skaterxl footage to his youtube channel. nick mullen's personal struggles might be somewhere between theirs but i always forget about him. e: oh yeah, jeremy once uploaded a solo drunken new years message thanking listeners of ballin out for everything, that ended with him getting emotional and saying this is stupid, why am i doing this, etc, and stopping suddenly Doc Hawkins has issued a correction as of 20:50 on Dec 22, 2020 |
