I guarantee it is. If they actually looked at the contents of the forums there'd definitely be other things included, probably a block for drug content (TCC), and who knows what for FYAD (probably under the "inappropriate" general umbrella, or "porn" if they get certain flags)

oh yeah, hate speech is another one I've seen it blocked for. I don't know for sure but I bet those blocks are from people who have actually looked at site contents (probably front page, maybe forums)

Do American companies use web filters because of federal guidelines like the "drug free environment" thing that pretty much forces them to drug test?

As an IT dude, I always assumed the primary purposes were security & legal, with secondary thoughts of blocking distractions to keep people working.

When I worked for walmart in 2017 the common "scam" was to get a bunch of stuff in self checkout , exit the store and then immediately go in, grab the same exact stuff and walk out the door with it. When the alarms go off you just show the receipt from the first purchase and hope the employee doesn't catch the date and time stamp on it. Then a few days later you go and return the first order.

I never thought about just hiding stuff, that seems smart but wouldn't the alarm just go off everytime

I once managed to accidentally shoplift a $150 blender from Kroger because the self-checkout was acting up and the assistant hand-scanned everything and missed it somehow.

It was too big to fit underneath my cabinets and I couldn’t return it.

I’ve never ever had a door guy compare a receipt to what’s in your cart. They always just do a 2 second once over then mark the receipt (usually with a bright highlighter so someone can’t reuse it)

The door guys typically are only looking for things too big to bag

I've never seen them rustle through bags unless maybe an alarm went off

This guy has a bunch of good videos on how to remove those tags when you buy something and the clerk forgets to remove it. If you don't want to go back to the store and get them to remove it you can just get a magnet.

Those scanners pick up on little doohickeys stuck in most expensive items but most of the time it's an innocuous looking sticker you can peel off with a bit of effort, it's got nothing to do with the barcodes except that the barcode scanners are also supposed to deactivate them when you scan them but it often doesnt work hence why they go off randomly and nobody ever cares

how is it going to read the barcodes? scanners struggle to pick them up when they’re 2 inches away from it

it's gonna be a little sticker with an RFID chip or some magnet thing if it's not a big obtrusive thing like you find on clothes. the UPC is just ink on paper, unless a laser with a computer attached is scanning that, nothing is gonna happen. when you walk out or into a target or walmart, look at those things right near the doors. those are the readers for the RFID tags or magnetic tags. unplug them from the wall and walk out with whatever you want (not an endorsement of theft).
