The Zillow search term of the day is "eyebrow" Eyebrow windows are windows with a flattened bell curve on top, usually . Eyebrow dormers are dormers that have that flattened bell curve shape and make a house look kawaii. An eyebrow roof is a really big version of that, generally with a window wall filling it in. An eyebrow Colonial is a 1 1/2 story Colonial where instead of putting in (expensive) dormers they built the walls up just enough to put itty bitty windows for the second floor. Less to provide light and more to provide cross-ventilation, critical for a habitable attic in pre-air conditioning times. https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/3-Dukes-County-Ave-Oak-Bluffs-MA-02557/56897942_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/306-Tunnel-Hill-Rd-Canaan-NY-12029/30000822_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/195-Wild-Rose-Ln-Sagle-ID-83860/221492972_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6119-State-Highway-28-Fly-Creek-NY-13337/31636736_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/292-Summer-St-Buffalo-NY-14222/30189379_zpid/ interior view of the eyebrow dormer https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/370-Mountain-Top-Rd-Park-City-UT-84060/68840990_zpid/ https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/1193-County-Highway-26-Fly-Creek-NY-13337/31636315_zpid/ Fly Creek NY is all about the eyebrow colonials apparently https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/21-Grand-Hill-Rd-Mont-Vernon-NH-03057/120663769_zpid/ 1915 Arts and Crafts built as a summer lodge eyebrow dormer! ignore the dumb string lights and check out the pulley system for the window shutters of the wrap-around porch! this part just has roll-up shades https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/6-Sickletown-Rd-Pearl-River-NY-10965/32391104_zpid/ ca. 1751 Dutch Colonial built by people who fuckin loved eyebrow-shaped things

Of course, unless that's lived in through the winter so the snowload can be managed, they'd be likely to come back to a pile of splintered rubble where their whatever-you-call-it had been.

Sirotan posted:Note on glazing: if you have a Hobby Lobby near you, you can take advantage of their 40% off coupons and use it on museum glass. This is the most expensive glass you can get for glazing, but it blocks 99% of UV and has virtually no glare and looks incredible. Buying museum glass at a custom framing shop is going to cost you $$$$$. You can pick up some acrylic glazing online when you buy your print if you don't want to go with glass, but personally I prefer the clarity of glass. Any reputable frame shop can sell you the glass - it might be more expensive but at least you aren't enriching a literal Indiana Jones villain (among other crimes). University bookstores sometimes have frame shops that are on the inexpensive side, since they service a lot of student artists.

this Danish company, softline is really cool. They make a bunch of footstools/ottomans/coffee tables that are multi-functional. For example, a soft upholestered footstool that has an optional tray that turns it into a small coffee table, which you can add or remove as needed (the "drum" model). most coffee tables are too big for me, and glass, while cool since it doesn't hide the rug fully underneath, is a definite safety hazard for a greyhound. http://softline.dk/en/products/poufs_footstools

I need a new sofa. Anyone know what this sofa in John Belushi’s apartment circa 1979 is? Or similar ones? It looks similar to a De Sede “Non-Stop Sofa”, but Belushi’s has a boxier shape which I like. And an ottoman. In the rest of the photo series I see Heller mugs, Kinetics stool, Artemide lamp, Crayonne media storage, maybe some more things from Habitat? I own a surprising amount of these already ... but this sofa eludes me.

It sticks around the window using double sided tape and then shrink wraps to the opening when you turn a hair dryer on it. It worked fine, but obviously it looks horrid from the inside and you can’t use your window. If you don’t plan on using the window though and don’t mind hiding it with some thin curtains it’s a workable solution.

I'm about to have to put them up in my apartment if they do a poo poo job fixing the big-rear end gaps around the sliding glass door, to at least have some counter to the cold. It won't fix the frame issue but I have stripping I can use for that, just not as effective as a real seal. Unfortunately I kind of need that as a window.
