I have an hypothesis that SW weapons look best when they exist in the Uncanny Valley of IRL guns. Close enough to be looking gunny, but with just the right amount of extraneous details to be ever-so-slightly off.
Either that, or modify specialty weapons like flare guns, olympic shooting pistols, funky paratrooper stuff, weird Cold War prototypes.
Or, you know, whatever works.

completely agree. Star Wars is a kinda 'junky' world even at the high ends of technology, poo poo just has bits and bobs on it for no real reason and that's important to the aesthetic. It should still read 'gun' from a profile and all but don't be afraid to slap on a completely needless rail or panel or bulk up the muzzle or add some vents and holes.

Yeah that all tracks, here's some examples of what I've bashed together.

Calling it now. The next excuse to keep a franchise alive by regurgitating the same nostalgic poo poo again to audiences as the next evolution of the prequel /remake / reimagining / soft reboot will be the 'alternate history' or 'what if'.

Marvel at least had a comic series of What Ifs for a while but yea I could see star war doing the same gently caress if why not?

I think the sequels *are* the soft reboot. That's why they leaned so heavily on the beat-for-beat similarities.

I guess that does leave the door open for a literal reboot...but they arn't going to do that until finishing the 'Mandalorian cycle' of shows.

I'm just watching the first 15 minutes of TROS and it's actually pretty good right up until Lightspeed Skipping. Something that you forget in the mass of how bad the bulk of the film is is how Boyega and Isaac are playing Finn and Poe as a couple in that first sequence we see them in.

id love suggestions on real life guns that you think would make bases for cool blasters?

The Colt Monitor has a giant Cutts compensator that looks blaster-y as hell.

The Madsen Light Automatic Rifle has cool vented bits.

People will eventually get bored enough that it seems inevitable. However, don't assume people arguing for fun actually means anything (until 20 years of brain worms set in and you start unironically arguing your initially ironic position)

RotS isn't a good film, but it might be an okay two films.

Is it out there to say that it's quite possible the sequels are a mess because Disney genuinely has no idea what people like about Star Wars?

No it's a mess because Disney producers were very very insistent that the films could not be about anything.
