Kirsten Acuna of Insider, while praising the film's animation and heart, criticized the movie's handling of Joe's arc, deeming it racially insensitive. "Pixar's first black-led film should celebrate a black man's experience and solely focus on his dreams and desires. Instead, Joe's life takes a backseat in order for a white woman to figure out what she wanted from life."[64]

its always fun to revisit old 80-90s-early 00 movies once you start to think "does hollywoo just make shittier movies these days and did they used to be better on average or was it just nostalgia/rose-tinted goggles?" and then it's like nope htey are actually still good movies. jp1 is still about a bazillion times better than any of it's sequels, modern or otherwise, and was great to recently rewatch after 20+ years. rewatching stuff like being john malkovich/casino/fight club/matrix 1/dark city/big lebowski/game/la confidential/se7en and such semi-recently and nope still good and better than most dreck.

american beauty is still lol though. and gently caress shawshank is a turd of a movie idg how that one is so highly rated it sucks rear end.

about the only good thing about modern movies is A24 productions has been on a loving roll and that company single-handedly saved 2019
