Dude?
How does it compare to virtual battlegrounds and stand out?

I was playing stand out for a long time, then switched over to Virtual Battlegrounds when it launched and it was basically stand out minus a lot of jank, but I am wary about spending more money on another BR game.

Does anyone that’s played all three want to share which one they like the most and why?

I was in the virtual battlegrounds beta and could never get in a match populated by people and not bots lol

So there’s that at least. Queue times were maybe 30 seconds to get into a P1 match.

What's the gun handling like in P1? Is it like ejecting mags and pulling back slides and all that or is it more simplified than the gunporn games out there?

Basically as soon as you move your eyes around everything is blurry. It's most likely due to the lenses.

I unboxed my G2 yesterday and was playing around with it. It's my first VR headset, and one of the most immediately obvious things was the "sweet spot" you're referring to. I feel like I'm wearing really restrictive contact lenses or something. I have to move my entire head to read something clearly that really should be readable by just moving my eyes the smallest of degrees. Certainly something that bothers me a lot IRL, so we'll see if it's enough to get me to return it.

Other than that and the USB-C port on my new motherboard not being enough to power the headset, it seems fine. Had to reboot after installing it the first time to get audio through the speakers. Just trying to take it easy and not barf.

[Edit: I've had Lasik and my vision is pretty much perfect these days.]

It’s simplified. When you fire your last round, or pick up a new gun, it comes with the magazine ejected but pinned to the gun, so you push the mag in, pull the slide back and you’re good to go.

The shotgun breaks open with the two bullets floating above the barrel so you push the bullets in and close the gun.

The mag/bullets and the slide are highlighted yellow on each gun to simplify things.

So, more involved than “pres butan, reload”, but not crazy gunporn level of detail and realism.

It’s still plenty stressful when someone is shooting at you and you’re trying to get your gun reloaded

NMS VR was kinda bad performance wise last time I played and the game is so menu based that even though they did a reasonsble job making things usable they're still kinda janky and awkward and I wouldn't recomend actually trying to play the game seriously that way. Great if you just want to explore or visit some other players base or w/e. One of these days I'll start a creative mode save in VR and see how long it holds my interest.

Keep talking is just a fantastic party game play it however you can. Vr obvs helps keep the diffuser and the manual separated but it works just as well on a laptop facing away from the people with a manual. Last time I played it was with a microsoft surface and we set up a phone call and had the manual in a different room.

Pretty good

They updated the experimental branch....2-3 months ago? Improved the performance significantly. Still has irritating menus but you can get used to it pretty quick. I agree its not what you want if your priority is building a giant, complex base but it's plenty usable to get through the "story" objectives.

I was a Population:One skeptic in this very thread and I’d like to come back here to say: I was wrong, game is good.

I bought it on quest last night (you also get the PC version with it) with some hesitation about how the quest 2 will handle a giant open world game. Actually the only reason I bought it is because it’s cross-buy, so if the quest ran poorly, I could always switch to PC.

It actually runs fantastic! I’m shocked at how well they got a game with this map size and view distance running on the q2! I’m not sure what witchcraft they’re doing but it works!

I don’t have enough experience yet to really comment on the gunplay, but I’m two rounds in and it feels good, doesn’t feel bad at least.

I really like the “climb anything” piece of it. Some games say “climb anything” and what they really mean is “climb most stuff but not everything” but so far I have yet to find geometry I couldn’t climb.

It’s hugely helpful for getting above firefights. I also climbed the huge central tower just to see what was up there. There weren’t any weapons, but there is an Easter egg.

I got up there just in time to see the Easter egg and jump back off before the circle got to me. Which brings up the flying mechanic. It is also really good. You just t-pose, basically and you can glide nearly anywhere. Put your arms down and you free fall (useful for when you’re being shot at in the air).

Overall there is a lot to do and learn in this game and I really love the breath of the wild movement scheme crossed with small-form (18 players max) battle Royale format. The performance of the game on Q2 leaves nothing to be desired, although I’m sure the Pc version has better lighting and whatnot, the framerate and stability of the q2 version is perfect as far as I can tell

Tl;dr: pop:1 is real good. It’s BOTWxFortnite and runs great on Q2

It seems to work fine with Pistol Whip and Rise to Glory, but BeatSaber gives me like 1FPS or less to the point I can't even get into the menus. I tried uninstall / reinstall through Steam, no dice.

Definitely seems like a software issue since the headset is handling everything else OK... any ideas?

It is actually sad to me that there are so many people out there who won't get a chance to experience it due to the costly barrier of entry. I stopped myself before too long because I didn't want to get any kind of VR legs or have trouble sleeping or anything and just couldn't stop talking about it. What an incredible experience. It's like being the main role inside a big budget sci-fi movie. Just an incredible experience that I highly recommend.

You could say the same thing about Super Mario Bros when it first came out though, plenty of people couldn't afford to buy a new Nintendo Entertainment System the first few years. But now SMB is old and you can get it cheap or play it on emulator.

Similarly, in 5-10 years the cost of VR HMDs will come down even more than the Quest has already managed, which will change things massively. That along with HMDs being more useful for other software will make it a more acceptable value proposition for more consumers, and more people will get to enjoy Alyx over time :)

Payday 2 is on sale for 99c right now. Seems like a no brainer to give it a shot with VR. Anyone currently play it or know how the community is? Is it fun/viable solo? I usually don't VR multiplayer much.

Also is Walking Dead Onslaught actually bad? Honestly I cant tell if it's actually a lovely game, because most of the bad reviews read more like review bombs from people who want to let everyone know how much more they like Saints and sinners than they do actual critiques. Like, is it an actual bad game or is it just not the VR immersive sim people want? I'm fine with it just being a way to blast some zombies for a bit

Its viable solo (more for "loud" shootybang than stealth; there's mods that make solo stealth more viable though) but much more fun co-op. You can play VR with people who are flatscreen so its pretty easy to find lots of people to co-op with.

There is a lot to the game to learn, so you'll want to start on the lower difficulties at first, especially since VR can be a little more overwhelming at first. Lots of people have been playing the game for like 6 years and have gear builds and know the levels inside and out and are basically wanting to speedrun the game on impossible difficulty with insane numbers of enemies, and until you level up and get the right perks and weapons you won't be able to keep up with that. But as you play more and more you can ramp up the difficulty.

But even just playing Easy with a buddy is really fun in VR. I especially like taking dual pistols in VR (where in 2D they're pretty weak)

There's a LOT of DLC content, but you can play the DLC without owning it as long as you join a game hosted by someone who does, so that's pretty reasonable and you can ignore buying most of it unless you really want.

Feels really good to get used to the VR controls in Blade & Sorcery and start being able to handle multiple baddies while on the move, even if half the game is waiting for them to open themselves up to a fatal counterattack from one of their three attack animations.

Some weapons still feel extremely awkward (any two-handed weapon), but it's also nice to challenge myself and start a sim wielding no weapons etc.

The campaigns vary wildly. Some are very short and some have several missions in a row so end up being very very long, especially if you fail and start over. You just have to learn which missions are which.

If you're slow there's a few reasons for it, you're probably wearing the heaviest armor? That's a balance factor. Or you're carrying heavy loot. If you want to be fast you need to build a dodge build with perks. Payday is a full FPSRPG, the stats matter a lot.

I wish I had a solution to offer, but I ran it at max settings across the board without a single hiccup in 30 hours on a 1070, so something ain't right. And yeah it's normal that it displays on the monitor as well.

Is the game running normally in flat screen mode? Tbh I'd say reinstall Mother VR or maybe the whole game. other than that maybe it's something with the link? I played on a Rift S so idk if that would cause any issues.

For Link you should only need to connect the Quest to your PC with a USB cable, ideally a quality USB 3 cable, preferably lengthy. You should already have the Oculus software installed, provided the cable you use works it should ask in the headset to enable Link at which point the Quest acts like a Rift. With that you can more easily use the Oculus API in games that support it.

If you're getting frequent stuttering using VD it may be a networking issue, wireless interference is a significant problem when streaming something as demanding as VR. In any case, using Link at least provides an alternative.
