Utterly infuriating.

I haven't checked but I'm assuming the Guardian is still letting John Harris do his weekly "I spoke to some fascists and they are actually very reasonable" videos?

Some people might think finding fascists reasonable is a reflection on the person listening.

But some people don't have the axiomatic belief that they are the arbiters of political wisdom that write for the guardian.

To be honest, things might have been worse with him in charge. Not because he would have made worse decisions, he absolutely wouldn't, but because everyone right of the Socialist Campaign Group in both politics and the media would be screaming about Stalinist Fascism when it came to lockdowns, furlough payments, etc and none of that would have gotten done. We could be doing the Sweden model right now.

Fascists are often reasonable sounding when you're speaking to them individually, it's when they're in groups kicking your head in that they're less reasonable sounding.

The liberal attitude that treats everyone as isolated individuals isn't very capable of considering that these are the same people and the only thing that has changed is the environment.

Fascism literally develops specifically as the counter and poison to liberalism. calmhitler.jpg isn't far off, they specifically rehearse and develop doublespeak and talking points to launder their abhorrent beliefs and desires through filters of :decorum: and keep around token minorities as useful spokespeople who can and will be disposed of the moment they're no longer convenient.

There are a few people who have done the 'Cover the US like the US covers third world countries', but the first was Joshua Keating in Slate, I think.

"From the first government shutdown posted:

This is the first installment of “If It Happened There,” a regular feature in which American events are described using the tropes and tone normally employed by the American media to describe events in other countries.

WASHINGTON, United States—The typical signs of state failure aren’t evident on the streets of this sleepy capital city. Beret-wearing colonels have not yet taken to the airwaves to declare martial law. Money-changers are not yet buying stacks of useless greenbacks on the street.

But the pleasant autumn weather disguises a government teetering on the brink. Because, at midnight Monday night, the government of this intensely proud and nationalistic people will shut down, a drastic sign of political dysfunction in this moribund republic.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics...er-country.html

Other people like Karen Attiah have used the same style.

The funniest thing about this is that the main disputes so far have been with Norway, Greenland and Faroes none of which are in the EU but which brexit has affected in ways which obviously the leavers all knew and understood because they always claim they knew what they were voting for.

Isn't that what the comic's saying? The more possible the better things are (Corbyn), the more they fight them. Conversely, as depicted, the less possible they are, the more they love them (see: 5 years of rending their garments at how bad the Tories were, pre-Corbyn)
