Malcolm Turnbeug posted:Yeah for all intents and purposes, from NSW QLD and VIC anywya, the learners permit IS a drivers licence so there's not really any way it can be considered an invalid form of ID. Not sure how other states handle learners permits but in qld any states learners permit is valid ID under the liquor act. Yeah I never understood why it wouldn't be considered ID, growing up in NSW. It was government issued, looked exactly the same as a full licence (except the colour at the top), and you had to go through the same identity process to get it.

Eediot Jedi posted:Doomers It's a much more contagious strain and is an entirely appropriate measure, especially considering QLD hasn't been dealing with outbreaks lately. Completely different than in Victoria, where we've now had two days of 0 cases despite no massive lockdown.

I mean as far as lockdowns go doing a three-day just-in-case lockdown to prevent the situation from getting out of hand and having to do a long one is, definitionally, the opposite of a "massive" lockdown

I assume this 3 days is to just actually let tracers get on top of it and if things are bad we'll see a longer more geographically focused job. Or qlders have actually been practising social distancing adequately and we are fine (lol)

There's apparently 79 contacts so taking a three day weekend from life so you can do some tracing and firebreak potential spread seems like a fine response.

I woke up to the news of the lockdown. I had plans for the weekend but who cares? My sister's boyfriend went early shopping and by the time he left coles at 7.30am the carpark was jammed and the line of traffic was 100 meters out the enterance.

I don't work Mondays so the only difference between this and a normal weekend for me is that I can't take iaJunior to swimming and I made sure to stock up the beer fridge.

Posting from the Eight Mile Plains (in Qld) pop up fever clinic since I have a cough which started today. I’m suitably impressed with the response. Traffic control, plenty of staff directing people to go, a suite of PPE (masks, sanitiser, wipes, tissues) at the start of the line, plenty of of those portable shade sails (it’s raining). The coolest thing is the “Tactical support unit” box truck packed to the gils with pallets of PPE. The only thing lacking perhaps are 1.5m markers on the ground for the queue but everyone is keeping their distance anyway

bowmore posted:I'm not sure what 3 days is supposed to do allows them to get ahead on tracing and cuts down on possible community transmission before they can contain it for an apparently especially virulent strain of covid i think? If its really out there in the community they can extend the lock down but its not like 3 days is a massive amount of time to be sure you've got it under control.

Hopefully with tightened restrictions quarantining/flight staff well get less and less of this sort of hotel breach stuff. Worry is when the vaccinating starts people might start getting laxer with this sort of stuff. People are talking about a 2-3 year time frame before we start seeing a more general successful ridding of it. That's a while to avoid gently caress ups over.

And by that I mean they will gently encourage the unvaccinated poor to be careful while simultaneously slashing all benefits and constantly making GBS threads on leaners.

The feds may try, and NSW might, but I think at least a few states will do all they can to hold out for a while. Tas, Vic, and WA in particular seem like they would be keen to keep things at least relatively locked down from the outside world. Don't see general international flights being a thing this year, but travel bubbles almost certainly will be. NZ and some pacific islands seem pretty safe bet. possibly a few place in south east asia, (would of said china if we weren't in a row with them at the moment).

I went to Woolies after work today but some mega-fatties already stripped all the shelves bare so I'll have to try again tomorrow. I hope I don't get a $200 fine for not wearing a mask while trying to buy a mask.

That will only help if the vaccines provide sterilizing immunity which isn't known at this time.

Honestly it probably wouldn't be the large a group to do vaccinate either. Far less than seniors, and possibly even immunocompromised people.

Because the law is arbitrary bullshit. Take, for instance, the NT Working with Children (Ochre) card and the NT Firearm Licence. Both can be used to buy alcohol. Neither can be used to buy cigarettes*. Or any electronic ID which requires an internet connection and access to a government database to prove that it's real. Bit difficult for some poor bastard working at a drive through bottle-o at some old place where even the cash register is so old that you have to use PLU codes. * I found this out from a friend who works retail. I said there's no way that can be real and he sent me this, straight from their training guide: Imagine not knowing all this stupid poo poo from all over the country and getting a fine so large it destroys your life. There should be a special tobacco and alcohol ID and no one can buy them without it. EDIT to remove anything which might identify my mate.
