I always saw that too.

My read is that Dougie Coop is just the empty shell. Real coops soul is fractured in two. Evil Danzig coup encompassing all of the bad traits, and boy scout coop stuck in the black lodge. He can't "defeat" danzig, because danzig is him. So he has to reunite himself as a whole, a human who is flawed and not perfect.

America's $1 Funnyman

As always with David's stuff, cool to have the different takes.

What I like about the off-putting and shocking ending is that it's all wrong. I don't think we have the information to know why Coop is Richard and what it means, Diane as well, or what's going on in that reality etc. To me that sense that nothing is right is what the ending is.

That said, fun to discuss. I just like that feeling of eerie unknown and whatnot, and I feel that's the point of the ending. I don't think the earlier plot of the season with the Coops is intended to explain the ending.

To me it's that you lose your sense of self and comfort in the world if things are different. And now things are different in ways they don't know or understand.

Would you be my new best friends?

Coop/Richard's little steps at the end of The Return really make me think he's already looking, even if only subconsciously, for a doorway between worlds so he can try again to save Laura. At his heart, that's what Coop will always be even if it is doomed to failure: the guy who wants to save somebody :shobon:

I share that feeling and enjoyed the finale for the same reason. The unknowability of what you’re seeing paired with the understanding that there’s enough there that it could be pieced together in theory creates a really powerful sense of the sublime that I really enjoy.

It would have been completely ruined if any character had said “new timeline,” parallel universe,” or “time travel” instead of everything proceeding by baroque hints.

Get ready to fuck!
You fucker's fucker!
You fucker!
I'm on a full rewatch and man the middle third of season two is so much easier to get through if you ff past James' black widow side plot, most of Josie's Andrew/Eckardt bullshit, the saga of Little Nicky, and a good chunk of Confederate General Horne, which is probably over half the length of each episode. But I'm watching every moment of Super Nadine and by god I'm fine with it.

The only skipping I support is the James storyline.

Nadine rules. I don’t know how people can like TP and not like her. Seems incompatible.

Update on lil Nicky because I was curious. Hasn’t acted since he was a kid.

“At the age of 15, Harris began playing baseball in school, and continued to play in college. After graduating from the University of San Diego with a bachelor's degree in Business, he played professionally for the Chicago Cubs' minor-league affiliate the Lansing Lugnuts for one season.

Following this he became a producer for production company New Wave Entertainment. In 2006, he started his own production company, 4th Wall Entertainment, specializing in television development, documentaries, commercials, feature films, and digital platforms.”

I agree with the chart that you probably shouldn't skip entire episodes, but you can skip certain plotlines once you're into the red territory.

I endorse way more skipping than that (I get nothing out Confederate Ben or little Nicky), but the James storyline is the absolute minimum that you should skip. Anyone that tells you that you need to watch the James storyline is a sicko freak and is not to be trusted.

The only good thing about James' storyline is it makes you hate him even more, which makes his scene in The Return even better.

the way you do that is to cut the image in half and set the top as your avatar and put the bottom in your avatar text
