Speaking of Dennis Miller impressions, one of my favorite SNL sketches ever was the time both Dana Carvey and Tom Hanks joined him on Weekend Update for three-part harmony of Jingle Bells. By the way, Mulaney is a writer for the Seth Meyers Spectacular these days. Miss a show, miss a lot https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4_wtjuQddcs Yes of course this clip is available on the internet, but it doesn’t compare to getting Surprise Mulaney at Midnight during a show. If all you ever knew was that some jerk posted a Mulaney clip and you went in knowing you were gonna watch a Mulaney clip, it doesn’t slap like when it’s just sprung on you. It’s like the first New York Musical Mulaney sketch on SNL vs the second, third, and fourth New York Musical Mulaney sketches on SNL. Watch live TV but on a 20-minute time-shift so you can skip past the commercials.

On Monday night, both Kimmel and Colbert happened to do the exact same pretape. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znExhtOwAUg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7losS2kf_OM (You need to jump to 11:03 in the video for his version) Which is funnier? I prefer Kimmel’s.

Tonight’s Colbert has Rob Corddry, José Andrés, and John Lithgow. Give how he said he had enough Obama material for two shows, I was kinda hoping that there’d be a second night of that. But that’s Monday night! Also, he will be cooking with Chef José Andrés on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theatre, so look forward to that. Confirming that Thursday and Friday are reruns on CBS. Seth also finally confirmed last night that his Meyers Family Thanksgiving episode will be held virtually this year. Reminder that NBC late night will be delayed at least 30 minutes because of the prime time Thanksgiving footballer game. pwn fucked around with this message at 02:57 on Nov 26, 2020 |

And now it’s been bumped to Tuesday night. A Tuesday night game, wild stuff. Even my dumb rear end knows that that doesn’t happen often. ... One of the “white whales” I’ve been hunting for years is an episode of the Jay Leno No-Laugh Hour from Q3 or 4 2003.* Rodney Dangerfield was the lead guest, and he was just not on his game that night. He was fumbling punchlines, and ended his set early. On the couch, he seemed to regain some composure, but was clearly aware of how bad he did. At the time, NBC reran the previous week’s Tonight Show every night in the All-Night block (e.g. an episode that originally aired Thursday November 20th would rerun in the AN slot on Thursday November 27th.) I was going to record this episode the next week, but they put a different show on that night. To my knowledge, that episode was never reran. For the last 17 years, I’ve chalked this up to a sort of professional courtesy—Jay has to run the show the night of air, but he wasn’t going to embarrass his friend with reruns. Everybody has an off night. I did my semi-annual search for this appearance and this popped up. Apparently Rodney was having a stroke. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1taPpY74b8 Not sure if this thumbnail image is from that episode (it probably is, but he was on the show a lot at that time.) There is no footage of the appearance in this clip. *Very odd, I remember it being in 2003, for reasons that are too irrelevant to get into here, but I just pored through the archived listings and he made no appearance in 2003. His last appearance was May 17 2004. I think he must have been a last-minute replacement, and as such isn’t reflected in the listings record. I know memory is extremely fallible, but I also know I saw this poo poo, and that it was in the second half of 2003. Also gleaned from the listings: Leno never loving stopped. I think there was either 4 or 5 weeks of repeats in all of 2003. He did shows the weeks of Christmas and New Year’s, only begrudgingly allowing his staff a break on Christmas Eve and Day—and Eve was preempted by NBC’s usual Mass from the Vatican, chances are if not he’d have made them work—and New Year’s Day. Those were on Thursday that year. He did shows the Friday after. And then they took a one-week break the next week. Just let people knock off after the NYE show, drat dude. It’s really great that you’re a workaholic, but other people have lives that don’t revolve around Monica Lewinsky jokes, gently caress.

In other news, Conan released a barely-edited podcast this week talking about Wednesday's events with Ron Reagan (the less conservative son of you-know-who). It's pretty entertaining even though it's very much the "I'm not a political person, but..." take on things and would get eviscerated in D&D.
