That's actually the core of the stalks, not the seed bodies.

No, you can actually batter and fry the "puffy" part as well. The fat from the grease will penetrate the fuzz and solidify it into a kinda bread textured savory treat. Someone should try it and film it.

How long are the seed bodies edible for? There are a ton of them around here.

They're like honey and keep forever. If they are looking a little moldy or whatever you just have to microwave them for a few seconds.

Yeah, here in Norway during WW2 people would mix them with flour to make it last longer.

Cattails came up in another thread a while ago (can't remember which) and I learned that they are amazing, blessed, even. There's a use for every part of the plant, and they're good for eating, building, weaving, fuel, etc. Just a great plant, all in all.

They can't be invasive everywhere because they had to come from somewhere.

Are you thinking of Phragmites? Those are incredibly invasive and are a huge problem.

I thought the story was that the initial paper couldn't be published as a solo work for some reason, so the author put his cat(who was with him through the whole thing, and likely 'helped')

It was because he used "we" instead of "I" throughout the paper and couldn't be bothered to change it like it says in the tweet.

Oh yeah I forgot about that trick. Next time I pick a few I'll microwave them in my lucky bowl with the gold rim and report back.

I'm looking at getting DBS in a few years. There are other treatments on the horizon as well that look pretty effective. It took about a year to diagnose my parkinson's and it's controlled pretty well by medication now, but I went that entire time without treatment and had to learn to do everything lefty.

It was such a shock the first time I took the L-dopa and almost immediately I was able to use my right arm again for the first time in a year.

It was born with one leg and two little stumps and it'd be pretty hard for it to wheel itself around on three wheels. It's be like trying to row a boat with just one oar.

Hmm the solution must be to replace the remaining leg with a wheel. More wheels!
