Having to use "optimal builds" is not my favorite idler mechanic. Do you have to redo all the studies once you get to the next prestige layer? (complexities?)

Yes. No need to worry though, in the second complexity you only look at the guide a bit, and everything after that you don't even need to pick studies other than the strongest ones (5 6 8 9 10 12) to both unlock and complete challenges.

Yeah I stopped playing when I realised I was just reading the guide and doing exactly what it told me to, without thinking about or understanding what any of the mechanics did.

It just today added up to 8 hours accelerated time for offline progress. Hard agree though that you either need to cheat and speed it up or use the scripting edition to automate most of the busy work.

Honestly I'm using the guide for ECs but it's not too difficult to see what impact the studies have and why you'd choose one over another. First row has the biggest immediate impact, third row is best for long-term growth, middle is in between. It can be tough to compare the effects from one row to another, but within a row it's usually pretty clear which are the most powerful.

All in all it's way less confusing and opaque than the theory tree in Distance. That had way too many options and it was much harder to determine how effects like "the softcap on endorsements start later" would actually impact your progress.

Not really, it's more like the middle and bottom row become stronger later in the complexity when you have more EP.

I had this experience too, so I started over and didn't look at the guide at all, and it worked out OK. I'm 13 days in now and at the last stage before Finality. I started to glance at the guide again in the last couple stages, but there's some randomness to dropped bonuses now, so it can't just tell you exactly what to do.

I’m there too. I don’t think you want to wait on every run, just every now and then when the cap raises significantly based on your eternities. I did a long run to build grey when I unlocked it, then did normal runs, a long run for purple when I bought it, and back to grey since the cap has gotten way higher now.

This is the method I came up with:

code:
(for chrome)
1. Load the page
2. Locate evolve.js in the devconsole
3. Place a breakpoint at line 4: switch (data.loop) {
4. Reload the page
5. Hover over 'data' and change 'period:' to 25 (lowest I found that still works and doesn't lockup the game after a while)
6. Click resume script execution, or press F8
7. Repeat step 5 and 6 two more times for each type of loop (main, which handles the evolution stage, mid, which handles mostly everything else, and long, which handles the day cycles and some other stuff)

You'll have to repeat this every time you prestige. Or make a tampermonkey/greasemonkey script to do it for you.

Some tips for optimizing:
-Set the short speed as low as 20 up through Bioseeding for maximum speed e.g. 20/1000/5000
-Set the long speed as low as 100 for maximum soul gem farming e.g. 250/1000/100
-Set the mid speed as low as 50 for mech grinding e.g. - 250/50/5000
-Messing with all of the speeds at once will make the game chug anywhere past the early game, so setting the above speeds when you need to will maximize your output

Basically you don't need to mess with the different loops outside of the one you're currently utilizing most. Short for resource farming. Mid for mechs and spying. Long for day cycle, so pretty much just soul gems.
That guy may have a better way to do it tho

edit: all of the above settings and minimum ms speeds are dependent on your cpu so mileage may vary. Those were my observations with a 6700k @ 4.5ghz

Different, not specifically better. In this route, you simply "max all resources (including knowledge), and add buildings I want." At any time, you can open the console and dump this:

code:
var obj = JSON.parse(LZString.decompressFromUTF16(localStorage.getItem('evolved')));
for (prop in obj.resource) {
if(obj.resource.hasOwnProperty(prop)) {
if(obj.resource[prop].amount > 0) {
if(obj.resource[prop].max > 0) {
obj.resource[prop].amount = obj.resource[prop].max;
} else {
obj.resource[prop].amount += 999999;
}
}
}
}
[b]obj.city.basic_housing.count = 100;
[/b]var string = LZString.compressToUTF16(JSON.stringify(obj));
localStorage.setItem('evolved',string);
window.location.reload();
That script above will max out all resources and give 100x of the starter housing. You can add a new line for each building - it's easy to just paste the lines below as you desire, replacing the bolded line.

NOTE that some building names change by species, like "compost" instead of "farm." You can discover the names by inspecting the button name - they are always consistent with the name of the variable.

One thing I'm curious about in Shark Game:
When you unlock those 'bring a couple of an animal to the next world' things, do they ensure that you can always access the tech/machines specific to them?
Or are which animals that are available hard-locked based on the kind of world you're going to?

Like if you select the upgrade which brings along 5 shrimp, does that mean that you'll get access to shrimptech(tm) on all future worlds? Or that you'll just end up with 5 lonely shrimp chilling throughout an entire world run if you're on a world that doesn't normally have them?

They're ineffective in some worlds.

A good workaround is to buy even more levels of that upgrade so that they'll have more friends. Maybe they hang out at the post-research science shark party.

Access to machines depends on the resources available in the world. No coral -> no coralglass or delphinium -> no crustacean or dolphin machines (not that you ever want dolphin machines). The big thing with the migrators is that they're multiplicative: the next one gives 25, then 125, 625, etc. Get a few whale migrators and you'll have food solved for most worlds.

Alrighty, I wasn't entirely sure what the limiting factor was, I was half expecting it to be a deal where once you were bringing all types of animals with you, you could do anything, speeding up future runs more.
Ah yeah, then I understand a bit more how strong it can be later on. 5>25>125 while also becoming x2>4>8 better etc seems like a pretty good deal, since the first part of runs is the slowest.

I'm just glad I'm starting to get level 10-11 and up worlds now, so that I get a bit more essence.

It took me a week or two but I just beat it last night... I'm considering restarting it from scratch.

It's fun because it's well-paced and accelerates nicely. The first reset of any new thing slows you way back down, then it gradually builds back up and gets even faster than before. It's very satisfying.
