Chicago is built in layers like this and it is nice not having delivery and garbage trucks on surface roads. forcing service workers into untenable living situations is a social problem beyond just city planning

So its a 1D city, and everyone uses the same highway to get anywhere? Or mass transit? If that thing gets built it will have worse traffic jams than LA and more crowded subways than london.

The Lone Badger posted:So literally morlocks? When do they start eating the rich? That happens at the full moon when the free trial of the security software they downloaded goes on the fritz on the entrances to the sewers are unlocked. The poors escape into the city to capture any rich people who happen to be out. They feast upon the rich until the sun comes up and they have to scurry back to the underworld before their skin gets burned.

Entrances of sewers near where rich people are? Sounds like Dark Days, Bright Nights which is the second book about the people who live in the sewers of Las Vegas. Some of the sewer entrances are quite close to the front driveways of some of the casinos, if you know where to look.

my actual dream city would be all cars banned outside of public transport and people doing necessary delivery jobs. Expand all pavements to have segregated cycle lanes and plant poo poo tons of trees with the free space from not needing multiple car lanes. have free shuttle services to big car parks for residents outside the town. it'll never properly happen here but obviously just cramming more people in to flats and then expecting the roads to be able to handle it is insane
