The problem is that Delve is going to be poor for "small gang" stuff because the enemy's entire war plan calls for n+1; they will ALWAYS want to outnumber you, overwhelmingly. loving around is a great way to make them freak out and drop poo poo on you, but for getting ~good fights~ you'll really need to at least get out to Querious and Period Basis, if not cross the great void into the central south and go to Catch or Immensea.

Some of the frigate fits with all the new trig goo and whatnot are evidently loving hilarious, but yeah, Delve is probably a poor place for it right now. You deffo want to hit up Delta and the other folks doing stuff in the bads' backyards.

Of course there's the risk of PAPI batphoning, but I actually think Delve is amazing for small gang as there are bads literally everywhere running around in a solo Hecate or in a small gang of two to five. There's a camp in 3-D in euro prime you can attempt to bait. BOPE and other groups are also pushing hard on ihubs in frig/cruiser gangs of 10-20 in euro prime time. A half decent shield cruiser comp might drive them off or at least have a fun fight, but nobody really wants to form a non-doctrine fleet that doesn't get pinged out.

I think it's just that the corp culture of waffe is quite different to smaller corps and it's a little harder to grab together a few like-minded guys to roam on an ad hoc basis, no pings required. There's a polish corp in GSF that's doing great work in and around YQX with only 5-12 people. I believe Garnoo has over 130 killmarks on his Hecate, more than most supers. I've lost count of the times I died soloing in my Stabber where even one frig ally would have sealed the win. Maybe I can't rustle up a gang because I just don't have any friends... :negative:

If M2- could support all 35,000+ active average players of EVE in one system, everyone would get in touch with their old friends and help them get back online to continue piling in. There's so much accumulated wealth, so many lapsed players who could return to contribute after eighteen years, and so many ways to get around now that no matter how wide CCP makes the highway, the playerbase will still find a way to reach capacity+1. It's a fascinating conundrum and it's hard to say what exactly the best "solution" might be.

I remember trying to come up with ways to solve this problem over a decade ago. The eventual entosis thing was a stab at forcing battlefields to be more distributed, but it never really worked out. The other interesting thought is to make an "Echo Slam" module with multiplying damage based on enemies in its radius, but there are probably too many applications where it would harm smaller engagements with its power.

Without hurfing too many blurfs (because I'm not sure how ready the thread is for me to really hurf), the more capacity CCP adds to individual star systems, the more sweaty nerds will pack in. If M2- could've supported all 12,000 nerds who wanted in with no trouble jumping in, everyone involved would try to pile in 18,000. If it could support that many, basically the entire server would try to pile into one system for the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny. If M2- could support all 35,000+ active average players of EVE in one system, everyone would get in touch with their old friends and help them get back online to continue piling in. The main problem is that EVE is primarily a vertically oriented hardware & software stack. I'm sure some stuff for request routing is distributed now. But, as far as I know, they're still using MS SQL Server as their primary database and systems/nodes are reinforced by moving them to a larger VM. That poo poo will only scale so much.

What I'm saying is, it's time for EVE 2.

I love that people have very strong opinions about this, when Eve already can have more concurrent players on a node by two orders of magnitude than any other MMO even attempts. Add in the greater complexity of interactions for Eve players than most MMOs and I'm honestly impressed at what CCP has done. Also, we're not anywhere close to the cap of people that want to be in a big fight. If you could have a node with no TIDI and infinite capacity, I bet you could easily get 30k people to show up for a fight.

Yeah it's really unfortunate that any amount* of this storyline is about CCP with respect to server performance. We're in totally different territory today than we were 7-11 years ago, to say nothing of the Great War periods.

* CCP's performance in terms of the game design changes they have made over the course of the past 18 months is absolutely atrocious, and the secondary storyline is how most of EVE/nullsec has allowed themselves to buy into anti-Goon war propaganda instead of focusing on the fact that CCP's changes have created a completely unsustainable set of game mechanics and an element of duress under which players cannot legitimately plan for the future. Everyone involved with the economic changes pretty much deserves to be immediately sacked, they are so bad and oblivious about the economy and how EVE players work. I hasten to add that the changes are really good for *Goonswarm* in the present military situation, but our enemies haven't realized that either, yet, so 'round and 'round we go.

Don't get me wrong: what's they've done with their tech is amazing. I worked with MS SQL Server almost exclusively for 15 years and always looked to what CCP was doing with EVE as an example of some of the best work you can do with a transactional non-distributed database design.

That's one of the best things about GSF is our Finance team's abilities. We've always been more agile in making Isk than our competitors. The mantra has always been make Isk however you want as long as it doesn't negatively impact the alliance.

You can do it with one character in something like a gila. Just be prepared to drop 5-6bil on the initial investment to be able to run the filaments that can actually make you money. Oh, and that investment can just die at any time if RNGesus decides to be a dick with no chance of even recovering anything from the wreck.

You can do lower level ones easily with a smaller investment, but the money is terrible.

Ngl gently caress Abyssals and most other ways that :ccp: created to make money. They only have one way of thinking: How can we make something that forces people to use 3 or 4 characters, and ensures newbies can't loving run them.
