Lots of verticality to these maps, weapons have alt-fires, and I have zero idea what's going on. Great weird dark aesthetic as you blow up cyborg nun things. That game is 100% the creator's gore fetish.

Code Vein, on top of being on the not great end of the anime stuff scale is one of the worst Souls-likes I have played and boy have I played all the bad Souls-likes. Even Lords of the Fallen was more respectful than to have zero windup enemy attacks and awful, awful hitboxes. Also the cathedral is the worst sewer level in all of gaming and it's not even in a sewer.

Thank you all, I'll wait for it on sale, so I can make my big milkers mommy waifu. Any chance anyone know a place to get Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1&2 for Steam? I've tried and yeah, woof, only found one that's 115 bucks. I like the games, but not that much.

I was looking through my purchase history and the first game I bought on Steam (at full price too) was Age of Empires 3. Which I never played. I'm bumping it straight to front of the backlog queue. Then I'll get around to finally finishing The Witcher 2.

Orv posted:Also the cathedral is the worst sewer level in all of gaming and it's not even in a sewer. But yes, pretty much all of the level design is awful. Every area feels like a sewer level, full of boring identical passageways reskinned to be <ruins> or <canyon>. It's a shame because the character build system is pretty cool. You basically get new character classes as loot from bosses or quests, and equipping them rearranges your stats to be a ranged attacker or spellcaster or whatever, along with giving you a new set of skills (one or two of which can be mastered so you can use them as any class).

The game punishes you for grinding levels by making your skill/class items not get exp if you've outleveled the content you're in.

Yeah, that happens fairly quickly, too, so you always have to push forward if you want to permanently unlock more skills.

Trip report on Saints Row 3: some of the jokes haven’t aged well. It’s wonderfully light-hearted and jolly compared to GTA’s world of misanthropes and psychopaths though. It’s easy to get big guns, tanks, money, whatever. I appreciate an open world game that actively discourages grind, to the point of providing an upgrade that shows all the collectibles on the map. Also you have to manually cap the frame rate at 60fps with a utility otherwise the vehicle sounds are delayed by about 5 minutes and the cutscenes play at 22 FPS. Very odd.

I can't even say how many times I see a game that appears to be on a deep sale -- let's say, Vermintide 2 at $7.49 -- click on it, see that if you actually want the entire game the price is actually $35.33, and just close it and move on. I know that publishers have figured out to use things like the Epic "free" game and things like the Xbox Game Pass, EA Play, and Steam sales to use dirt cheap/free base games as a trojan horse to sell you the actual product -- assloads of expensive DLC -- but I really wish "Game of the Year" editions weren't becoming a thing of the past, and also that said GOTY editions would go on sale like the old days. I feel like $7.49 for the complete version of a 2.5 year-old game would not have been unreasonable to expect a few years ago. Yes, I am a cheap bastard, but I felt like the price I used to pay for that was always being a couple of years behind. I was fine with that deal. Now it seems it doesn't matter how old it is, they're not giving you that DLC for cheap.

A lot of games that end up with a dirt cheap base game sale and tons of DLC often have years of free updates and content along with the DLC stuff and the complete packages often end up as just a bit more or sometimes even less than the original price of the game. It's not a perfect system but it's let me keep playing many games over the last few years that otherwise would have dried up after a month or two never to be touched again. Not everything is that free with its content, granted and not everything in a DLC stack is always great but that definitely feels like a personal choice problem rather than devs or publishers being inherently greedy. Not that they aren't frequently for other reasons.

# ? Jan 17, 2021 05:14 |

I know it was just an example but for vermintide 2 you really don’t need that dlc. You can play the dlc maps if the host has them. The base game comes with a large number of maps already so I would argue you are getting a complete game for less than $10
|
# ? Jan 17, 2021 05:16 |

I just start with the base game for cheap and if I like it enough, buy the DLC later on another sale. My attention span is so shot that I will get bored of the base game and end up not wanting the DLC anyway.

# ? Jan 17, 2021 05:47 |

That tends to work for me as well. I rarely buy separate content DLC these days because there aren't a lot of games I stick with for that long anymore anyway.

For what it's worth, developer's response that's both Steam and in the comments of that video:doekuramori posted:Hi, this is doekuramori. I'm the creator of The Citadel. Thank you for playing and your feedback on the game. I will try in the future to make games with more variety and the feedback in mind. However there is one thing that is absolutely wrong. I am not guro artist. This is not a guro fetish game. Lately there have been many comments accusing me of being a nasty person and attacking me. This isn't true. I am not guro artist, I don't make guro works or doujin. My interests are Touhou, Lost in Abyss and biomechanism. I also very like dark themes and games that have dark themes and oppressive feeling. I hope you can see it now. Not guro. I am interested in biomechanism, like how people will merge with machines in the future. And what kind of conception that will make, like Ghost In The Shell meets H.R. Giger. It's strange aesthetic and I think creates interesting image. But it's not guro. The Citadel features gibbing and violence because I identified that as a big part of the aesthetic of classic retro shooter. Ultra violence. Because I draw anime style, I interpret that through the way I draw. It is not "fetish". It is inspired by those old games, and also newer games which are influence by that old style, like Shadow Warrior 2. I was quite interested by the gibbing and gore system in Shadow Warrior because it's like how old brutality meets new technology that allows use of physics with gib system. Again, not because it is sexual. I am proud of what I achieve with The Citadel game, even if it is not perfect, but now I receive many comments and mean messages after watching video from people accusing me of being a dangerous freak who only wants to hurt girls. It's not my intention. Please understand. The internet being what it is, apparently he's been receiving large amounts of targeted harassment off the back of that video.

Well, that seems very earnest, so I'd personally be inclined to believe it. Usually, fetish art types don't bother being upset about accusations of making fetish art, because they know what they're doing and people who are into it are explicitly their demographic.

Yeah from what I played of it, the stuff in Citadel is really more in the vein of stuff like the Quake 4 Strogg or the manga series BLAME! and Biomega, and old 80s cyberpunk OVAs. On the other (sweaty) hand, Hedon is the new-retro FPS that's a vehicle for the creator's orc babe fetish OC.

That's cool, and also sounds about right. This whole controversy seemed antithetical to Epic's philosophy of just throwing money at poo poo when it comes to their storefront -- seems like their style to cover the cost of the old content, whether that's by some coupon you get when you buy Hitman 3 or whatever.

I remember looking into buying Citadel back in August but ran far and fast away after finding out the dev had a Pixiv account that someone linked in the steam forums that had a bunch of little girls getting raped/tied up, etc. and one image was just a girl shooting herself in the mouth while staring at the viewer. Not linking the thread for obvious reasons but that was really where a LOT of the guro discussion started and then IcarusLives did a video that brought it really out in the open. I remember the tread of confused fans after that harassments news came out and the dev stated that game wasn't guro because everyone who bought it just assumed it was and the dev was being coy about it all this time. That news release about the harassment smells like bullshit to me because the guro accusations where alive and well after that Pixiv account was found days before the IcarusLives video. Needless to say you...uh... should not buy this game.

Death Stranding: - I can't stop playing, send help. Seeing how competently made this game is gave me whiplash coming off the back of Cyberpunk. - This Junk Dealer and his "girl" subplot is the most cringe-inducing thing I've ever seen in a game. She is not in fact his young daughter. She's also clearly reading her lines phonetically and they gave her subtitles even though I'm playing without. As to why these random quest givers have their own special cutscenes, I bet she's Kojima's niece or something. "I'm asking you to marry me, dummy!" had me doubled-over laughing, sweet Christ. It was like The Room in video game form. 10/10
