The Senate is a bit of a clusterfuck right now, and Pelosi et al basically figured (correctly) that the threat of a fast trial did the trick to keep Donnie bottled up. The Senate right now is having trouble constituting itself (the 50-50 power sharing thing is held up because McConnell wants the filibuster kept ironclad), or determining trial rules, and Biden's nominees are already getting held up by rando Senate douchebags. Everyone more or less agreed that holding the impeachment over Donnie's head turned out to be enough. Pelosi will likely send the article over at the end of the week, then the Senate trial starts in a 50-50 Senate with Democrats controlling the rules.

I'm more concerned with them doing something to get rid of and jail the Congress members who no poo poo aided the terrorists, but that's probably a losing proposition if I expect anything done.

Democrats dithered in the house for a few days (probably lost 2-3 days), and the 25th thing was dumb and symbolic (and lost another day), but they hypersped through the actual impeachment itself. Literally no way they could've accelerated those floor proceedings. The Senate adjourned to the 19th because there was nothing really left to do with the currently constituted Senate (and they were probably traumatized a bit), but McConnell had an easy route to call back the Senate immediately under an emergency statute. He wouldn't go along with it, nor a hyperspeed trial. Once he's acting fucky, the route to an immediate canning was gone. But yeah, very bad for small-d democracy.
