DRM + makes cheating a lot harder

But I really don't give a poo poo about somebody else cheating in a single player game.

They could just as easily say "you can unlock things offline but only online play gets put in the leaderboards" which would work great for all purposes other than DRM

They straight up do not care at all about cheating. You can (and people do) use a cheat program to turn off AI so that you can't lose SA and just run straight through the levels shooting targets in the face and they won't do a drat thing about it. The community's complained about it for years but doing anything to fix it might break the freecam mod which would be sad.

Anyway not even that benefit of always-online is being utilized, so there's basically zero purpose to any of it.

Well I'm not playing tonight I guess. I can sometimes get to the page where it shows my unlocked, but clicking next just gives me an error and I have to start from scratch.

Really poor planning on the part of IOI. If you are going to do this sort of thing you should have a plan in place that doesn't leave thousands of people unable to transfer the data they need to play the game.

There's only challenges for Sniper Assassin and Silent Assassin still, but that's alright. Trying to get some obscure title might end up a pain anyhow.

Took 45 minutes of wrestling with the site but finally got my save transfer pending. I only had time tonight to play one run through Dubai anyway, so if it does delete my progress when it finalizes then big whoop I was gonna replay it again anyway before moving on.

Also, I know their site is being hammered so obviously it's not working as intended, but this is really funny to me.

I’ve been waiting on the save transfer to be up and running like most, but I noticed that the unlock systems in Hitman 3 are a bit different so my broken brain went ahead and compiled a list of items that you can unlock in Hitman 2 but not Hitman 3, and thus are only available through a save transfer:

Santa 47 - Secret Santa, Paris

Jaeger 7 Covert - Master Sniper, Sapienza
Claw Hammer - Plumber’s Apprentice, Sapienza

Snow Festival Suit - Snow Master, Hokkaido
Ice Pick - Snow Master, Hokkaido

Tactical Wetsuit - Hawke’s Bay
Bat Shuriken - Hawke’s Bay

This does not include anything you could earn from Elusive Targets in Hitman 2. I also didn’t have the most scientific method, I just compiled all the items listed in the Challenges and Mastery menus in Hitman and deleted them as I saw them in the menus in Hitman 3.

Hello!
Gotta say, the amount of interest I have in a psychological exploration of 47 is zero. He is a man who dresses up as a clown and slaps people with a fish while quoting dry humor one liners about his victim being in a "fishy" situation. I do not need to know that he does that because his father was in the circus and died when he was eaten by a Halibut.

Hello!
So having bum-rushed through the campaign to get the lame story bits out of the way, I can confidently say that while there are some linear sections, they're almost entirely one-offs related to the lame story and can be happily ignored on replays (the exception being the dumb train). Everything else is more of the same delicious Hitman goodness we know and love.

I enjoyed the level in a vacuum but yeah as a send off to the franchise it's kind of awful. Especially when you consider that the previous games had 6 full levels.

To be fair, one of the levels was New Zealand, and I'd say it's a coin toss as to which takes less time, even taking replays into account.

Although one point in the new level's disfavor is that it's really hard to see how they can get Orson's dream mission in there.

Lol. Furthermore: was there ever a good reason for a game which perfectly lends itself to an episodic structure to even have a Hitman 2 and a Hitman 3 instead of just releasing new episodes? Instead of this Matryoshka doll where it's importing Hitman 2's files after Hitman 2 imported Hitman 1's? They never rebuilt the engine, did they?

I'm still stuck on pending... I assume, since none of my save data has popped up yet. Every time I try to click through an open the carryover website in the PS4 browser it's just a blank screen. If I'd known this was gonna be such a hassle I was have stayed up a bit later last night to set it in motion.

I mean, they also thought it'd be great with an episodic structure initially. The problem is the consumer populace did not. That's why Hitman 1 was initially released as episodes (and maybe why it had the most fully fleshed-out levels of any of the releases).

By some miracle my data transfer seemed to go through correctly so been having fun progressing through the game (my save pre-transfer errored on load, for anyone thinking of that). I've given Dubai, Dartmoor and Berlin a good going over - all strong levels with unique bits. Shame this shoddy launch will overshadow the excellent game.

The entire transfer website has been down for over an hour and they're probably asleep. I have no idea if the queue is processing but I've been in Pending for 4+ hours so I'm assuming the whole thing poo poo its pants, which would be the second or third time this week that IOI has managed to crap themselves.

Just the whole "your targets are rival assassins who are there to kill you" thing. Blood Money had a couple levels that dipped their toes into that space, but one of them is the Christmas party level where it's basically just there to freak you out if you fall into it and the other is A Dance With The Devil, which is just a terrible level. And then the only other time the series has done that is the loving nuns in Absolution. I wish they did a little more to hunt you in this game, but I understand that that would probably turn into a nightmare for the player as well as anyone tasked with scripting target behavior. Making it so that you have like ten targets in the map but you only have to kill five is a really smart way to handle it, too.

The more I think about it, it's fascinating how IOI seems to have the polar opposite problem of a lot of other AAA developers, which is that it has a really good core product, but its business-side of things is just a mess. It's been a poison pill for three publishers now (although to be fair, Epic Games' dumb exclusivity definitely did a lot to help with that, although at the same time it seems like they promoted it a lot more than the previous publishers did).

This unlocked at 2am this morning my time and I had work today so I thought this might be smooth by the time I got to play it, but lol nope. I might just play through the story and then leave it until the carryover works. Pretty lovely though, especially as it was totally predictable that this would happen, and it mainly affects people who are the most into the games.

I played Hitman 1 and 2 on the PS4, but almost quit 2 because the text was so loving tiny and hard to read. Is there a way to scale it in the pc versions? Or maybe they have an option for it in the new Hitman 3? I don’t mind buying and replaying 1 and 2 on PC, it’d be fun, but this is the only game I’ve played that has really strained my ordinary 30 year old eyes and could be a deal breaker
