What's really funny is thumbing through the Letterboxd reviews for Wandavision (which is a series, not a movie, lmao, letterboxd is for movie reviews) is just how loving desperate they are to stick it to "Marvel haters." Like just picking a few quotes at random here:quote:Honestly so loving refreshing. The MCU isnt here to play around. I'd like people after watching this that still think the mcu isnt cinema to kindly shut up and get their eyes checked. This is art mama. The use of sitcom elements were pure brilliance and bliss. I was smiling like a kid who just opened their christmas gifts and got everything they wanted. I may not be the biggest elizabeth olsen fan or her wanda portrayal but I'm here 100% for vision and monica Rambou. The amount of personality they give vision after swallowing gum truly was comedy gold. Some jokes were indeed dad jokes but they all landed cause I was living for it. quote:when elizabeth olsen gets an emmy for this that’s when you all will see quote:"For the children" -Chorus of Parents, quote:I’ll tell you what, I am invested. I can’t wait to see more! There is no way you can watch this and tell me that Marvel isn’t cinema, whatever that means anyway. quote:WandaVision is revolutionary for the industry, and a bright spark to kick off Phase 4 of the MCU! The attention to detail, line delivery, and overall expansion of this universe is brilliant. Only scratched the surface of where things can go👀 quote:Martin Scorsese you were saying? It's really indicative how identical this poo poo feels to the reaction around Biden's inauguration. A discourse of dominance of those on the wrong team, celebrating a victory for corporate America above all else, and imagining an elaborate fiction of a future that will never come to pass. It's really this sort of horrific mirror of the neoliberal superculture that the political ruling class is trying to ram down everyone's throat, and what your expected behaviors and reactions are, and it's interesting to see this poo poo play out over the next 4 years as the contradictions heighten to levels never thought possible.

Farm Frenzy posted:bob gets completely loving obliterated every day and it just makes him more convinced that he has to tell the world that marvel movies are actually really deep when you think about it I sometimes wonder what would happen to a guy like MovieBob if he was forced to watch and review a film like Funny Games (2007), Elephant (1989), or Force Majeure (2014). Not even something completely weird and disturbing like The Bunny Game (2010), Mordrum (2003) or Salò (1975). Just any film that has enough meat and ambiguity to it that he wouldn't be able to dismiss it outright, but neither would he be able to fall back of lazy cliches.

You seriously underestimate their ability to fall back on lazy cliches and dismiss anything not pandering to them, or in MovieBob's case likely take away the most horrible possible message from it Like that one guy in CineD who watched Dredd as part of a challenge and unironically said 'Every criminal Dredd kills is a cycle of violence ended'

I noticed the same rhetoric (but different political alignment) surrounding the mandalorian, which i haven't seen except the last scene of season 2 because there were a bunch of videos of aging men opening weeping because they made the guy they liked as a kid do the good things and wave his magic sword around and jesus christ that deepfake cgi is terrifying. and all this is a big deal because finally disney has triumphed over those sjw cucks at disney that made the star wars sequels. go disney!

i would like to take a moment to appreciate that while wandavision is attempting the biting satire of a genre of television comedy that died long before any of us were born and wasnt even that popular in its day biden stans are inventing a cult of respectable domesticity around the president and his wife that is becoming more prominent than his actual policies

I am playing Control and so far the most unrealistic thing is the guy in charge of the Panopticon was only promoted to management after a decade of honest work and not immediately after he was nepotismed into the bureau.

So I actually quite like this sketch: it's an interesting piece of satire wherein the two characters realize that they care more about aesthetics than actual genocide, while literally fighting the communists, and this is what causes them to change their politics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rWvpvlT9pJU But with the amount I've seen it posted and reposted with smug self-deprecation by white liberals complaining about other white people lately...
