The Heisei Gamera movies are being given the 4k treatment in Japan and I really want to import the UHDs when they get released. Still my favorite kaiju movies of that era.

I can concur on the John C Riley’s character and I guess I can see that. But Jackson’s character struck me as a person who carried about his people and would have properly just retired or stayed a career soldier after Vietnam, but nothing about him struck me as a guy who was going to do horrible stuff in South America or Iran.

I guess I can also just accept he had a mental break and totally lost it. Which makes him a little more tragic as opposed to a guy who gives a speech about mowing doing civilians for fun. He struck me as bitter, but not unlike many from that era.

But like I said I generally liked the movie.

If Jackson's character cared about his men, he would've let them go home, instead of signing them up for some escort mission just because he didn't want the war to end.

Soon.

Skull Island is the best in the series (imo) because it manages to be consistently fun. John C. Reilly and Samuel Jackson are great, and clearly the director had a blast making it.

I'm not sure a Metal Gear Solid movie would work very well, but if it revives interest in the brand enough for Konami to bother porting MGS4 to any system other than the PS3, it'll be worth it.

It's insane to say, but the cinematics in Death Stranding are largely really well done. Even with the game graphics overlaid, the performances and movement is really good. The exertion and stress of the environment really comes through. I really don't know why he's not managed to put a film together, he's obviously psyched for movies. Him doing a Kaiju film ... why not. It's not like there's never been a bad or weird kaiju movie.

No internet movie speculation will ever be as dumb as the people who misheard a line from the Cloverfield trailer as "it's a lion, it's huge!" and were convinced it was a Voltron movie.

The cut scenes in Death Stranding are great but overall Death Stranding is an amazing and unique experience that can only exist as a video game. Kojima loves movies, sure, but he understands and uses the unique possibilities of video games as an artistic medium better than 99% of game creators. I hope he keeps making video games.

Not just The Guest. Adam Wingard's only "bad" film is the Blair Witch remake, and even that's really a serviceable horror movie tainted by association with the original despite/because of not really having much in common with it.

Loved the hip-hop drop when Kong decked Big G. I hope Kong's theme in the film is hip-hop centric. JunkieXL pls. [edit] Expounding on this, the use of a hip-hop track in the trailer made it feel like a Fast and Furious movie—if GvK is anything like a F&F movie, I will love it.

As the winner stands tall at the end of the movie, DJ Green Lantern's The Champ Is Here better play into the credits. :colbert:

Edit: I don't think I can be more hype for this movie after rewatching the trailer a dozen times. Everything is so kinetic that it feels like there's a 50/50 chance that Kong powerbombs Godzilla and I'm loving it.

I believe the big issue there is that MGS4's code is a horrifying Frankenstein's monster of code, with some truly insane hacks implemented to get the game actually working, and emulation of the PS3's Cell processor is still a rough proposition for games that went similarly wild with their programming.

Yeah, that game is a technical nightmare. It would need a full blown remake, which seems like something that Bluepoint Studios would do. But, it would make more sense for them to do a modern remake of MGS1 first. MGS4 is such a mixed bag.

The footage they use is from War of the Gargantuas which you absolutely should see, it's on HBOMax and Criterion Channel. The monsters aren't Bigfoots, but spawn of a giant Frankenstein monster (from Frankenstein Conquers the World which isn't on streaming sadly.)

Yeah in the US version (UPA version with Russ’s actually voice) not the Toho export dub) all the references to Frankenstein are removed.

Honestly FCTW is really not that good, more of a curiosity, WoTG as you mention is far far better.

In GVMG they use the term Bigfoot Garia(?) which was the green Gargantua.

Mantis42
Jul 26, 2010

Ah, there are different dubs. That explains why when I watched it on TCM there were clear references to Frankenstein despite the host introducing it by saying the references were removed.

Let me start off with a basket of chips. Then move on to the pollo asado taco.
Surely the fact you can just knock out and lock up Kong instantly makes Big G the winner.

Also pretty sure people here are on the ball with MechaG framing Godzilla and while fighting Kong that’ll be discovered. Godzilla comes to help Kong out. Godzilla dies during the fight leaving Kong king of the monsters, King Kong, if you will.

Either that or it is the real Godzilla and the reason he’s attacking humanity is that he’s gotten wind of humanity making their own monsters and that’s made him pissed.

I want Kojima to make a kaiju game. Its something that has rarely been done and judging from the end of MGSV, when Metal Gear Salantropus is activated, he could really bring something to the table.

And yes, I know City in Shadows exists, but that game is a PlayStation exclusive in Japan that is never going to be brought to the west...

Yeah Legendary had the rights to make 3 Godzilla movies, that’s it. That doesn’t mean a new contract is impossible, but that’s all business stuff and who knows. I personally look forward to Toho making a new Godzilla in the future. I’m curious what a Reiwa era G would be like. Later this year Shin Ultraman comes out and I hope it gets a UHD release before Christmas.
