Shin-kai really is a beautiful ink. Rohrer and Klinger Verdigris is another good option and probably my favorite, though. It's a gorgeous blue-black with a lot of shading.

Professor Shark posted:Opinions on best Blue Black? Looking for something with good shade and dry time Noodler's Blue Black diluted to 50%. Dries quickly, shades very well, and the black part is permanent. I have done this for years (I only dilute a sample vial at a time) and have had no issues. For non-fussy use, Iroshizuku Shin Kai.

I inherited a Cross Century pen & pencil set from my great grandfather, but it looks like the reservoir (I’m guessing that’s what this is?) was shattered at some point. I’m assuming this isn’t an easily replaceable/repairable part?
|
# ? Jan 20, 2021 21:22 |

Are you sure it's a Cross? The nib on the section there says it's a Sheaffer. Do you have a photo of the body and cap? A pic of those might help identify the model and how easy it might be to repair.

That looks like the rubber sac that probably hardened into oblivion. You should be able to pull off what remains, but chances are the bottom part that is affixed to the pen itself is glued on and may be hard to remove without some significant work. It is replaceable though.

Well, it’s a Cross box but I’m thinking the pens were just stuck in there at some point. You can barely make out “W.A. Schaefer” on the pen’s body, as well as the nib. Here are all of the components broken out- more of the rubber gasket thing snapped off while handling it (it’s crazy brittle).

Nice! That's a Sheaffer Touchdown filler. Here's a link on how to service one: https://vintagepens.com/FAQrepair/Sheaffer_Touchdown_repair.shtml I've never fixed one myself, but it seems relatively straightforward.

Just about any repairer will handle them for a sensible price.

Yeah, doesn’t seem that complicated but I’d rather leave it to a professional. How much should I expect an overhaul to cost? Reading through this thread prompted me to order a Pilot Kakuno. I’m a lefty with terrible handwristing and grip pens like a gorilla, so we’ll see how thsi goes!

New Delta day today, yay! For today, we have this lovely Delta Via Veneto Elegance Doue Torsion Acrylic body and sterling silver cap etched with a series of rotating grooves, with a 14k rhodium-plated nib.

That is a lovely delta. Nice. How do the deltas, write anyway? Were their nibs made in house or something like JoWo? Also, does Noodlers use anti-mold stuff at all? This is the second time I've had this pen inked up with noodlers and found the nib covered in what I have to assume is mold.

Noodler's has a proprietary antimicrobial formula which he guards jealously. Which ink are you using? Some will definitely leave crud on the nib-- the dye particles just love to crystallize out of a saturated solution, especially reds since they're larger molecules by nature.

The whaleman's Sepia, named of course after the "Whaleman", a specialized role in the japanese porn industry Hey Grack uh, if you are cool with saying it, what do you do for work, because that Delta habit can't be cheap.

Welp I bought a stub nibbed Metro and a calligraphy handbook since I guess 5 months without a new pen was just too long. Also I might actually be turning into Grack But With Diplomats as I predicted earlier, because I keep wanting to get another Excellence A2 now that they have a version with a two-tone gold nib. And maybe an Esteem for everyday carry.

Check my posting history for the full story, but yeah, I basically pay for this hobby by doing nib work. A couple of people in this thread can attest to the work I do, and that's separate from my actual job as a financial advisor. Also, I only paid $235US/$300CDN for the Via Veneto.

Courtesy of meat glitter I have welcomed a Kaweco Sport (M) into my collection: Updated family: It's certainly a fine writing instrument. The body quality reminds me of the Safari, but the nib seems to be in much better shape out of the box. meat glitter even included a converter and some extra cartridges (!)
