 This is Morty. He came home with us from the shelter yesterday to visit for a week to see how things go. He's a six year old beagle mix with separation anxiety issues. He loves sleeping. He gets along with our current dog and follows my wife around. He's still unsure of me, but he's warmed up to taking treats from my hand.

Nice! Hope he warms up to you. My grandmother had a spaniel rescue that was beaten by his former owner, a man. Despite seeing the dog nearly every other week for 10 years, he never really warmed up to me, or any other men. He loved my grandmother though. He started to almost thaw right near the end of his life, he'd reluctantly come over for a head scratch or a pat. As soon as you'd start though, he would snap out of it and was all "... oh wait, I'm supposed to distrust guys" and would scoot away. Almost seemed confused by it too and would give you plaintive looks, like he wanted to be friends, but couldn't understand why his subconscious didn't want him to be friends with guys.

As I started transitioning, he stopped disliking me and would stay at my feet all day and get protective of me when a Scary Lady came over. He was also huge, like 125 lbs (I think lab x American bulldog). Goodest boy, miss him a lot.

It's 36 o'clock, and time to watch this blessed video. It's from ages ago, but it's one of my go-to's for getting out of a funk, and thought someone else might enjoy it. The day she returned we happened to be dealing with a very man-scared pup who would shiver and huddle in the corner if I was even in view. The volunteer sat in the puppy's kennel for like 20 seconds before the pup curled up in her lap. I got a picture before she started crying, and I'd post if not for her privacy, but rest assured it exists and it's very blessed. We don't deserve dogs! We never have. But we have them and my life is all the better for it.
