What's everyone's thoughts on morrowind rebirth? The town remakes look nice, but I'm kind of skeptical of the balance part of the mod.

Farewell, sweet Nerevar. Better luck on your next incarnation.
It’s not compatible with Tamriel Rebuilt and I can’t imagine ever using it for this reason alone. Maybe if someone makes a patch idk.

Yeah the more I looked at the readme the more I starting thinking it wasn't worth it, just wanted to check in case the other changes were so mindblowing that it made up for all the weird nerfs like putting all good equipment under lock and key and heavy guard. I don't use the sword of white woe, but goddammit its going to be on my display table in nerano manor come hell or high water.

It sucks. BUT the music is actually really good. I always download Rebirth, extract the music, and mix it in with Morrowind’s existing tracks.

The town remakes are mostly downgrades in my opinion and the balance is wonky. Unfortunately most people think rebirth is the "modernize morrowind" mod instead of "one guys vision of vvardenfell"

I'll give it a listen since I already have it downloaded, that was actually the part I was 100% sure I'd skip, assuming it would be jarringly different from the original.

are the same thing!

My brother's main character, and first playthrough, was an Argonian with a custom class specialised in acrobatics, alchemy and unarmed combat.

His way of playing the game was jumping around at break neck speeds picking every flower he came across and pumping himself up on potions to punch everything to death.

Meanwhile I was a basic bitch who played an Orc barbarian named Uglug Gro-Brashuck who'd solve every problem with a battle axe.

I still do my first playthrough of every TES game as an Orc, a descendant of Uglug.

Then I tend to do more specialised plays with a assassin/Thief character and another as a mage.

So I've become too strong? I can gently caress up daedra no problem, and they keep dropping weapons that make me exceptionally rich and also do much more damage and hit better things. I've been told that the expansions are much much harder. Is that true? I feel like upping the difficult, I just looted a family tomb and killed two storm atronachs and three of those gator things with no issues

becoming super strong in morrowind isn't very hard and that's part of the fun. there are a dozen different mods to slow down leveling and let you enjoy the progression more (as well as a lot that remove daedric items from daedra)

If you're using the unity port of Daggerfall there is a console command to teleport the current dungeon's quest target ("tele2qmarker"). Daggerfall's dungeons are a labyrinthine mess and you can easily be stuck searching for an objective for ages so it makes the game much more enjoyable to have an option to move on.

Also, if you haven't yet the first things you should buy once you're out of the tutorial dungeon is a wagon and the recall spell. Wagon lets you carry a lot more loot and recall lets you quickly get back to the dungeon entrance for convenience and so you don't get lost forever.

I'm playing the freeware version of Daggerfall on Dosbox, is the unity port much better/recommended?

I got the wagon and the horse yeah, it's been helping a lot (the wagon in this case I haven't used the horse much). I also got recall/teleport and been marking outside the dungeons.

edit: gently caress, daggerfall unity looks really good

Morrowind is not a game you play for a challenge. It’s a game you play to be a god. Unless the challenge is not trying to be a god. I’ve never passed that challenge.

Unpopular opinion, but Morrowind is more enjoyable when played “for challenge” i.e. by avoiding god items, free overpowered gear, secret merchants; by practicing LARPy self-imposed limitations; and via difficulty/immersion mods such as AshFall.

Unrelated: i just finished playing SHotN. Took me about 35 ish hours to experience maybe 75% of the content. Started at level 1. Ended at level 13. Fantastic expansion. Mislabelled though, it’s really The Reach: Home of the Reachmen. And one of the cities is technically in Hammerfell.

I've used (most) of these for a while and they're pretty good, Balmora and Ald'ruhn especially feel more like real towns. I can't tell which lore-friendly Gnisis this is but be wary that the Heart of the Velothi one is a real resource hog

Hey, we at Tamriel Rebuilt are pretty happy to have released Build 21.01 just now, a bugfix and maintenance release, which brings compatibility with Tamriel_Data v8 and the latest Skyrim: Home of the Nords release, Dragonstar.
Highlight: people might enjoy dual digit FPS in Old Ebonheart, just in time to find one or two more new things alongside the extensive bugfixes.

The Old Republic MMO has a planet called Voss which rhymes with boss. It also has a planet called Balmorra which makes me think that one of the Devs was looking at a map of vvardenfell when they were coming up with the planets.
