shout out to Prop though I think the brioche BTB fans also need roses, so to say

Also this episode lead me to a terrifying possibility with this strange new post Trump era: the pact of forgetting . Neither victors nor vanquished let’s just move on and move forward. and yeah the Spanish civil war you can both sides some things but Francoist Spain absolutely loving not.

I hold to the belief that history doesn’t repeat, it rhymes. I also dread when it is true.

On a lighter note yes you should see Guernica (the piece) irl because it is enormous and how I learned about the Spanish Civil War in the first place! It pushed then teen teen witch further into leftism that 8th grade Madrid school trip. I never realized how much that trip was v “coming of age” it was until this two parter.

Robert, if you ever get around to that lengthy exploration of Civil War-era Spain I would absolutely pay money for it. Just FYI.

I would even buy products and services. I'm just sayin'.

I took an entire class in college called “Papal Indescretion” and it was about all the most hosed up popes and all the insane bacchanalia that they got up to.

Popes would molest nuns and then raise the babies as nuns and then officiate their own weddings to their own secret daughters that they raised in secret convents.

They hosted a grand ball and the Pope would assign high ranking Cardinal positions to the priest who busted the most nuts with all of Romes most expensive escorts.

My favorite was, I believe, Boniface the 8th, who was a steward of the Pope, and convinced the sitting pope that he was too old to be Pope and needed help. After the sitting Pope, John the 16th or whatever, gave him some of his papal authority, Old Boner Face immediately decreed the previous Pope a heretic and had him locked up in a tower and made himself full Pope. And the imprisoned Pope, a 78 year old man at the time, escaped from the tower and made it all the way to France before they found him and improsoned him again (and he escaped again, lol)

What I’m saying is there are probably 2-3 popes who could EASILY, easily, fill up an episode, and their crimes range from the comically absurd to Heironymous Bosch levels of hell and darkness.

Not that I think that Rob and the gang couldn't do a good job, but there is the podcast Pontifacts who are leading up to these popes.

I listened to jamie's MENSA podcast and the first 3 episodes of her Lolita podcast and she's very weird and very smart. I think she has a great nose for stories and is really talented journalist but she is also a very particular kind of person and certainly an "acquired taste" IMO, and I had to stop listening to the Bechdel cast after a couple of years because it just got extremely samey.

I would 100% recommend "My Year in MENSA", it's an awesome expose on their lovely club, but honestly Lolita is kind of slog. I'm not a true crime/SVU kind of person, so consuming multiple hours of media about pedofilia is extremely mood dependent and I haven't finished it yet so i'll hold off on recommending it.

Theres a qanon anonynous episode about him but it really isnt anything major from what I remember

just a libertarian rear end in a top hat who got lucky in the 90s and has more or less coasted off of that fame and job for the past 30 years

he had a few stupid inventions/concepts he funded, wrote some generic business books, and had a bout with some neurological condition that stripped him of his ability to talk

I think he also divorced his wife and married someone half his age but his new wife was in her late 20s so it's more old rich dude creepy than anything

Relating to today’s episode, two things

- François Coty? If you’re a makeup nerd like myself, it is indeed this Coty! Though now it’s merely by name.

- Dreyfus, is more related to Julia Louis than of Richard.

I’m glad your parents are in a favorable position to deal with your mom’s illness. You’re a good man for putting your life on hold to to help your mom out. I’m sure you mom is a strong lady.

If you need the time, just give the show over to Sophie and Jamie Loftus talk poo poo about whoever in history they want. I’d honestly pay for that.
