I swear I've seen a Chigusa/Hirota vs LCO hair vs hair match out there somewhere but I can't for the life of me find it now. I just remember it being great and any help finding it would be cool.

Its a show in Akita which from doing some research is a comparatively small city for Japan (305k so not tiny but not massive) and a lot of those shows historically seem to have been shows where an outside promoter buys the rights to hold Stardom shows and so are entirely in charge of advertising and promotion; which might help to explain why that poster is so inaccurate. They had a pretty big small town show in late November I think it was where it felt like Mayu and Tam spent the whole week doing local promotion and that drew a pretty big crowd for a show with nothing major on it and I remember seeing somewhere that show was basically bought by the local town to give a new venue something exciting to have there early and they clearly did a good job of promotion, I don't know whether this group are doing the same.Ishin posted:I swear I've seen a Chigusa/Hirota vs LCO hair vs hair match out there somewhere but I can't for the life of me find it now. The only Nagayo/Hirota vs LCO match I see on cagematch is one from 1997 which I doubt would be Hair vs Hair since Hirota would have still been a rookie but I could be wrong. The only Hair match listed featuring Eccentric was an April 2003 match with Hirota/Nagayo vs KAORU/Mayumi Ozaki so that could be what you are thinking of?

Looks like they are doing Momo+Iida vs Nanae+Arisa on the next SEAd show. Show was really good: main event (Sareee’s last pre-WWE match) was great. The post-match was good: you had Yoshiko being an emotional mess because her pal is going to America then after she goes Nanae tries to dissolve all of the factions and when they refuse she forms her own faction with Arisa and Honori Hana but Yoshiko is sort of awkwardly in the middle of things while not actually being involved it was a bit odd.

She's been downsizing her role within Sendai Girls and the wider scene for a few years now: so this doesn't feel like as big a loss as it would have a few years ago. Like her last big singles match was, what, the Sareee match roughly two years ago? Within Sendai Girls Chihiro Hashimoto has been the ace for the last few years and DASH Chisako is the person that they are pushing as the long-time vet now and with them, Mika Iwata and the new rookies who are all very promising it doesn't feel like they need Meiko unlike a few years ago. Now that's without looking at business which is impossible at the moment for anyone really; and Sendai Girls haven't announced any attendances for the last few years as it is. I think everyone involved in that era of GAEA has chilled out slightly since then: so I don't think things are quite like that anymore. The impression you get from the videos they've filmed in the dojo is that she has high standards and expects people to try their hardest and give their all but she's not out here giving people shoot dropkicks for not trying hard enough anymore. Part of that could be her growing up (GAEA Girls was filmed in 1999 I think; so Meiko had only been wrestling for four years at that point) and also the fact that Sendai Girls doesn't exactly attract a lot of recruits and a lot of the people they do get are kids - Manami started at 13, Kanon is 14, Yurika Oka started at 16 I think - and when people are that age you have to work very differently with them. Their other rookie is Natsuho Kaneko who is a bit older but I think they know that physically she isn't going to be Manami Toyota and while again they expect everyone to work hard there's no point having overly high standards - plus I've heard that she does a lot of work outside the ring for them (graphics design is what I heard; don't know how right that is) and part of the deal could be that as part of that other work she gets to wrestle as well. The non-Japanese wrestlers that have trained with Meiko think very highly of her: and I'm inclined to trust them.

It was trying to recruit students for the dojo and she said something like "we accept everyone whether they're a naturally gifted and talented athlete like Chihiro Hashimoto or if they're someone like Kaneko."

Hahahaha yes! Chihiro had a similar one talking about the rookies where she’s like “you have Kanon and Manami that came through our wrestlers circle (classes open to the public); you have Yurika Oka who moved from Osaka to train with us and you have Kaneko” and that made me laugh as well. It does seem relatively good natured but you don’t know for sure. I like Kaneko: the vibe you get is that it’s like you took some generic random person of the street and had them get training from one of the best of all time: she’s clearly behind the other rookies but I think she’s still pretty good. Clearly works very hard: took her four attempts to pass her pro test and plenty of people would have quit by that point but she didn’t and I suspect that could be why the promotion stuck by her. It is a pretty tough test; here’s one of the photos from the one that Kaneko passed.

I was at the test where Kaneko passed so I've got a soft spot for her. I hope she does well. Her entire reason for getting into wrestling is thinking that Hiromu is cool and I think that's something most people can empathise with.

Yoshiko is taking a month off to rehab a nagging waist injury meaning that she'll be missing the 2.7 OZ Academy show and the 2.10 SEAdLINNNG show. Sakura Hirota will replace her facing Kakeru Sekiguchi at the OZ show. I assume this isn't something serious and just her making sure she's in top condition for what's likely to be the biggest match of her career.
