By then it was already very clear that the GDR can't survive after the soviet reforms so it's not that surprising they talked with anyone willing to listen. I have compiled a 30+ hour Myanmar news playlist from the last 15 years and am going through them slowly. Really nearly almost all of Myanmar's current issues started by the quasi military government, the one before Suu Kyi. Including the Rohingya issue around 2012, 13, with ethnic and communal violence broke out between the Muslims and the Buddhists. At that time Suu Kyi just got released from home arrest and her party had 8% of the seat in the congress. Also this previous President signed on to most of the BRI with China AND he was the one who cancelled the dam project with China, really none of these Myanmar "drama" had anything to do with Suu Kyi. The current western left liberal hivemind who have been pointing fingers at Suu Kyi for thing happened in Myanmar or anything she didn't do really make no sense. The liberals should be pointing fingers at themselves for projecting unwarranted expectations on Suu Kyi. Also Suu Kyi is loving 75 year old. One of the reason she got released was she was already at retire age when she got released after being house arrested for 15+ years during her prime. a "freedom of navigation operation" is the US sailing a ship in international waters and making a big public spectacle of it, under the premise that this is a reminder to both pirates and state-actors that those are in fact international waters and therefore everyone should be free to sail in them this is otherwise known as a provocation when done by anyone else EDIT: for additional context pro-US / liberal politicians here in the Philippines occasionally say something to the effect of if only the US had done more of these "freedom of navigation" patrols in the South China Sea, that the Chinese would never have been so bold as to seize islands and shoals to enforce their Nine-Dash Line nautical claims gradenko_2000 has issued a correction as of 15:30 on Feb 5, 2021 |

“Freedom of navigation” is a phrase the US has been using for a while now, since atleast around the time of Obama and the “pivot to Asia”. I suppose the US is trying to say that it won’t tolerate Chinese policing of naval traffic the South China Sea. Since that is in their eyes, a right reserved only for the US The US also likes to do this while claiming indignantly that China has “militarized” the SCS.... as the US sails their carrier groups through it Red and Black has issued a correction as of 15:38 on Feb 5, 2021 |
