The Awake: A bring them home The Asleep: vote I'm proposing D: Once we have mapped out the facility, start to wake a very small number of people so we have more intel about their origins and then start to steadily wake them in waves, starting with the ones chronologically closer to us, and waking the next wave after the previous one has finished it's quarantine period on Earth. If this option is unsuitable I'll vote B The Site: C The Discord: Y

The Democratic Republic of Minnesota votes as such: Awake: C Asleep: D, the remaining sleepers need to be triaged and sorted out a bit just to determine what craziness we're dealing with The Site: C, give the Barsoom boys a little scouting action with Earth backup Discord: Abstain, it would make debates more lively, but the pace might be kinda hard to follow, some of us check up on this at work and stuff where more sedate forum format is easier to keep up with Get well soon MisterBates!

sebmojo posted:PRNZ propose PROJECT FALX, a crash course to upgrade our space combat readiness. This should have a goal of achieving a practical (taking into account current or readily achievable technology) but effective space fighting force, under the jurisdiction of XCOM, within two years, comprising at least ten craft capable of engaging and defeating a similar size force of the crashed Grey ships. HereticMIND posted:This is exactly what BLUE WARHOUND was designed for. We need to raise the readiness levels of all available ship crews and have them trained before we enter any meaningful combat. In essence, BLUE WARHOUND is to act as a compliment to FALX and should be considered secondary to FALX’s priority in terms of training (ie. BLUE WARHOUND should, ideally, be taught as the last course of general training or offered as an Advanced Officer’s Training Course for those headhunted/slated for command positions aboard flagships). Noting these, which should be put to a vote but I'm happy leaving it for the next full session.

The Kalmar Union votes as follows: The Awake: C - We don’t feel it safe to bring them back to Earth until they’ve been properly cleared, and bringing them to Luna is too much risk for not enough reward. Best to keep them on Earth while building up the appropriate facilities, which can always be repurposed once all the abductees have been processed. The Asleep: C - The text for D is a little ambigious, since it seems to indicate they’ll be shipped to Earth as soon as the cryopod’s popped. We prefer to keep everything relevant to this operation on Mars, so barring clarification we’ll go with C. The Site: C - Frankly, the scientific tasks of Barsoom takes a backseat to the alien ruins, so having Barsoom personnel do prep and initial surveys in preparation of the main body of researchers is well worth it. The Discord: Y - I’m unsure how much traffic it’ll see, and we’d have to hash out some system for what goes where, but that’s no reason to not at least try it. If it doesn’t work out no big deal, the server can close and all traffic return to this thread.

We have heard from Bates: COVID kicked his rear end but fortunately not to the point of hospitalization. It's been a very rough month but the LP will resume, though exactly when isn't sure yet.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H6wl-EyhXl0 Well that fuckin sucked. Coronavirus is seriously bad folks, I spent a good while there basically invalided. Wear a mask, wash your hands, and stay safe. I appreciate your patience, and am looking forward to continuing this. The Plan, as voted on by you: The Proton-B will land to conduct a brief initial look-around of the site, make sure the survivors aren't in immediate danger, and stake out a landing site for the next expedition. They will stay no more than a few hours. Construction equipment, habitats, and other gear will be assembled for an outpost, and a team, consisting of about 40 experts from Earth and Luna and about 50 people pulled from Barsoom's 250-person crew, will be dispatched ASAP to Cydonia aboard the Tranquility and Luna. A permanent base will be constructed in the ruins. The Barsoom team will arrive first, probably several days before the Earth team. The survivors currently awake on Mars will be housed at the Cydonia base, where they will be given accommodations, medical and psychological care, and slowly reacclimatized. This will be a temporary solution, I don't think your intention was to keep them as prisoners - but until we know more about this situation, we will keep them there. As for the people currently there, we will take a slow and gradual approach. Once we have examined the sleep chambers, if we are able to determine a way to safely wake the sleepers, we will awaken a very small initial group in an attempt to learn more about how they came to be there. The thread did vote to establish a dedicated Discord server for the LP, and so we will establish one, but it was an extremely close vote and there were very reasonable concerns raised. The absolute last thing I want to happen is to put up a barrier to participation, and I want to make sure people are still able to play and feel like they're getting the full experience without necessarily having to post in both the thread and the Discord. We'll experiment with it a bit, see how it works, see what we need to change, if it works out then great, if it doesn't we'll close it. No harm in giving it a try. I'll have it up tomorrow, along with a full update. March 25, 1982 Proton-B, the 'Cydonia Proton' as she's known among her crew, receives instructions from Ascension to prepare for landing, to perform an initial site survey and offload most of their food supplies. This will necessitate retracting the solar panels and radiators, extending protective cowlings over them, unpacking the stowed landing leg assemblies, and opening the shutters protecting the ship's four reusable drogue chutes. This, along with a battery of safety checks and re-checks, will take four cosmonauts on EVA about six hours. This was not part of the ships' original mission plan, but the supplies they're carrying will buy the Cydonia survivors enough time to give us a comfortable safety margin in case something goes wrong. The commandant of Interkosmos Academy, various high-ranking Academicians, the commander of the Interplanetary People's Army, and a few other important figures receive calls requesting candidates for an expedition to Cydonia, to be ready as soon as possible. Dossiers start arriving at Ascension Island via e-mail within an hour - xenoscientists, archaeologists, engineers, doctors. Academician Vasilyev sends a young up-and-coming cryonicist who played a major role in developing our own suspended-animation technology, and suggests reaching out to the Hawaiian Royal Space Agency with a request for them to send a specialist of their own in the field; Ascension does so. HRSA responds to a request for a cryonics specialist (with no further details at this time) that the Director will see to it personally, as they have a special interest in suspended animation technology. This raises some eyebrows, as who exactly the elusive 'Director Haole' of HRSA even is has been the subject of much speculation, with suggestions ranging from Neil Armstrong to Wernher von Braun to Howard Hughes. The crews of the Luna and Tranquility are briefed and set to work. They will be ready to take on personnel and equipment long before it actually arrives. While all of this is happening, and Mission Control on Ascension Island remains a flurry of activity, a routine satellite maintenance mission suffers a minor electrical failure in orbit and radios for assistance; technicians walk them through repairing it mere meters away from others planning an expedition to alien ruins. Even in extraordinary times, life goes on. The Cydonia expedition maintains constant contact with the survivors on the surface, and learns a few more things as they do. They confirm they have had no direct contact with any living aliens, and receive further clarification that they did find a number of dead ones, all of them decayed and likely dead for many years. An explanation for their 'alternate food source' is sought and received - a vast selection of different Earth plants grow in soil-filled troughs on terraces in a huge chamber near the 'drydock'; our contact on the surface describes it as 'like a museum display'. Light strips of some kind supply artificial illumination, and automated sprinklers on a schedule supply water - our contact clarifies that tracing, breaking, and tapping into one of the pipes used for this system is also how they've been getting water for their own use. Most of the plants are not food crops, and there aren't enough to really farm even if they knew how; eventually they'll eat everything they can get food calories out of. At length the Cyclops indicates they are signing off for the night. "WILL YOU STILL BE HERE IN THE MORNING?" they ask, and, upon receiving an answer in the affirmative, go dark. The cosmonauts in orbit work through the local night. The Proton is readied for landing. She will descend...at dawn. Mister Bates fucked around with this message at 09:54 on Feb 8, 2021 |
