But really its the gun violence thing all over again. Every US school is vastly more boring than what shows up in our media. Most schools aren't violent at all with maybe the occasional attempted fist-fight getting broken up really quickly. But some are dealing with significant poverty and violence in the their communities that trickles down into schools, and others end up being small-town/community fiefdoms where sociopathic behavior is overlooked, if not encouraged, by adults who don't want to stop it. If a US person is talking about how rough their school was, and its not because of literal gang activity, its because they were stuck in one of those hellholes.

So talking about US education in broad terms is painting a lot of unique situations with the same brush.
