it's kind of surprising how much donut county sucks because it's a katamari rip-off and katamari owns, but everything that works in katamari just doesn't work in donut county
the levels are too small, there's not enough stuff in them, and just on a basic level it doesn't make sense because why would a hole get bigger when you put stuff in it?

in katamari, there's a great sense of progression because stuff that blocks your way (or is literally the ground you walk on) eventually you're rolling up into your cute growing chaos ball. you can't block a hole in the ground

and it's non-linear- it's thrilling when you get your katamari big enough to pick up traffic cones right when you're at a big line of traffic cones, you feel like you're nailing it.
donut county, if it's not time for you to collect that yet, you just don't collect it and find something you can, and it's just like rock -> bigger rock -> bigger rock -> oh the level's over

I give indie games a lot of leeway, but at some point I just had to admit I wasn't having fun

yeah katamari's especially fun because you are constantly taking revenge on things that used to kick you around

2. Stacking.
Cute, has some of that Double Fine writing and visual design that makes Psychonauts a classic, but the puzzles are kid's fare. Most likely literally for kids?
3. Armored Warriors (co-op)
This is a blast. Every pick-up is fun. Definitely play this together with someone (or -two) else.

It's the best one I've played for sure and would def listen to anyone who has recs of similar stuff as opposed to the myst style you pulled a lever, good for you.

I played Her Story straight after it and while it's not exactly the same, it does have the ideas of pulling information from lots of sources together to make deductions.

Pathologic 2 - Incredible game. Reminds me a lot of morrowind in that you're exploring a completely alien culture and have to piece together a lot of things by yourself through dialogue and context clues. Good poo poo, get the feeling I've missed a lot of content though, so I'll replay it pretty soon.

I really hope they get to make the other 2 characters

What did you play on? I have it on PC and PS4 Pro because I thought the latter would help with the loading but it's like 10 seconds moving between each part of town on PS4. My PC is worse but maybe if I drop the graphics way down. Dropped it for other stuff at the time

think about this game on a weekly basis since I played it last year. it's such a great experience, and yeah, one of those games where I couldn't even tell how much of anything I was doing was something somebody else even came across bc of how open the path to the finale is.

my favorite character was grace, the graveyard caretaker driven insane by the pile of plague corpses. i don't know if you ever even really have to interact with her but I checked in every day to try to keep her psyche intact. stuff like that sticks with me and it's basically mechanically pointless.

I also liked stopping by the nutshell bc I fixed a lamp for the kids there and I wanted to see if the lightbulb kept working until the final day.

Oh I definitely recommend playing it on PC and installing it to a SSD if u have one. By all accounts the performance for the base ps4 is cyberpunk tier, dunno about the pro tho.

plus i think only pc got like any patches/optimisation

i really liked the quest you could do for lara with the water barrels where the solution is to just ignore it because if you follow it through you infect the district way early. and if u tell dankovsky the prick has all the water barrels destroyed. some times its just better to do nothing.

my heart loving dropped when "the day when the plague stopped playing to lose" hit and all the loving kids got infected

Because it never leaves its bedroom, no one has ever seen this poster's real face.
the nemesis system never seemed that cool to me because I never got any of the revenge mechanics or recurring dudes
I think maybe because all I did was kill them (but like... why wouldn't I???)
it was just this endlessly replenishing chessboard of orc boys that the game would say were "enraged by spiders" or "flatulent" or whatever. idk dude seems to me like they all die the same

I had a good experience with the nemesis system in Shadow of Mordor, the first time I played it. But it's too easy after that first playthrough, and Shadow of War is way too long and aimless, for it to do much that's interesting.
