Around day 200 or so we started getting Brutes and Shamans spawning in the Meadows. Now (apparently, i've not been in today), there are Draugr occasionally appearing there. Is this a known feature - that the longer you run it the harder the world spawns get - or is it linked to something else (average tech level of people on the server, or number of bosses beaten or something).

It's frustrating because some people are forging ahead with getting themselves kitted out with later game equipment, but others on the same server are content building farms and houses... but the world is getting more dangerous for them too.

My theory is it's tied to bosses beat, which is also basically tech level.

How do you keep them from just running away? I've run into 3 so far and every time I get them to ~25% and they peace out.

how do they work?
Throw a harpoon at them as they go to run away, eventually they "forget" they they should be running and start attacking the boat again.

I don't bother dragging them to shore. I just get them down to 1 arrow shot away from death, harpoon them as they start running, then jump in the water as they come back at the boat, firing an arrow as i land on it. I usually get most of the scales and I don't have to bother dragging it for 5 minutes.

is it possible to dig a hugeass trench around where a boss is going to appear, so that you can casually snipe it from above, or are bosses smart enough to leave the trench?

It's tied to beating bosses.

The scales they drop make a really good shield that is better than the Iron one and has less of a speed penalty.

It's OK and looks great but because it doesn't have a party bonus it's not as good as the smaller shields, which is very lame.

Yea, sorry should've added that i was just mostly comparing it with the iron shield since they are both same tier. If for some reason you do go tower shields over the round ones.

No parry is indeed lame

Game is really new and still in development, so I'm sure more features will come later, but this game could absolutely use sliders like Conan Exiles has. You can boost up certain things, lower other things, etc. and tailor it to your playstyle.

I also think inventory is wonky. Either give us weight limit or give us spaces, but not both. And maybe give us a way to increase weight. Even something silly like just traveling with over 2/3s capacity slowly ticks it up in levels, or tie running and jumping into a general athletics skill and have that boost your carry limit.

Yeah, making running and jumping skills also increase your carry weight a bit would be fantastic.

I'm honestly surprised there aren't more skills for things like fishing and cooking. I'll be surprised if more don't get added, and a base "athletics" skill sounds like a great idea. The current inventory system definitely needs work.

Really I just want more numbers to go up.

Fishing seems like a skill that could be easily expanded, and it sounds like they may do that in tandem with expanding sailing, which is great. I think everyone loves sailing in this game.

The first update, Hearth And Home, will focus on house building, giving players more things to do around their viking homes: "It will probably be pretty focused on the food preparation aspect of the game with more recipes and stuff like that," Törnqvist said. "But there are also new additional building pieces."

Update 2, Cult Of The Wolf, is all about exploration and combat, while Update 3, Ships And The Sea "will bring in some ship customization and try to flesh out the ocean biome a bit more". I think that's the one I'm most excited for. Any game that lets players explore cool things in the sea is a good one in my book - particularly if you get to do it on a personalised viking longboat.

The fourth and final planned update, Mistlands, will add a new biome with new enemies, items, resources, a new big bad boss and more. Törnqvist said that when the game is finished, "there will be nine biomes with nine bosses, then we're also exploring adding mini-bosses and stuff like that."

Is there any confirmed method for doing away with an enemy spawn zone? We found this nice peninsula to build a base on, but these greydwarves spawn on the very end of it every couple of in-game hours and we are constantly having to pause to fight them off. I tried flattening the section with the hoe, building a workbench in the area, and looked for other methods, but nothing is working. Nowhere I've looked online has any real clue.

Any solutions for this or should we just give up on this area and move to where there are no regular spawns?

I finally found a swamp and immediately regretted going there, but once I got some Iron back I started working on my little town.

This is my Inn, it ended up being pretty tall in the end, which I probably wont do again unless I make a church.

The Bar area, it's pretty cosy!

I wanted an area to store mead and stuff in so the building partially has a basement. The stairs don't totally line up but whatever

This is the kitchen area, which is a separate building, it used to be a roof on stilts so I could have 4 fires going. Not finished obviously.

And finally upstairs! There are 2 private rooms and a small common area.

All in all a comfty place to sit

Did you try make sure that the workbenches cover all the possible locations? They also really like to swim so you could line the coast with spikes too.

They were spawning specifically IN the area covered by the workbench circle. So the workbench didn't seem to be preventing it.

We would just wall it all up but we don't want to have guys banging on the walls 24/7 cause the spawn is right there.

Edit: my buddy cleared off all the trees and rocks and everything and then a brute spawned and punched a hole in our house and murdered him lol

How far have some of you traveled to find him? We've expanded out quite a bit and I'm surprised that we still haven't found him. I'm making it my new goal to go out searching for him. Will running through each dark woods area down the middle be enough to make him show up on the map?

Mine wasn't far north-east of spawn, just one quick boat trip away. Showed up almost immediately when I started exploring in that direction.

He always seems to spawn in Black Forests, so I figure he usually won't be that far out.

He was decently far for us, not on the main island at all. Didn't find him till after we started looking for swamp biomes to find crypts.

Welcome to my hovel!

Here is the outer wall with main gate. You can see how this hovel has expanded. The left rectangle being the initial build. The large middle rectangle is actually Large Middle Rectangle 2.0, having recently gone through a complete rebuild and rework. And further on the right, the little rectangle is the newest addition where kilns live. You'll see when we get inside. And the furthest right wall circle is where our piggies live!

Welcome, come inside, won't you?

Obligatory Troll Trophy.

Come have a nice sit by the fire. I mounted my Stagbreaker to the wall, she served me well. We can see the start of the Wall o Chests.

The Wall o Chests in all of her glory! Also, a master piece of art created by my friend.

Here we see the work bench and upgrades, plus part of the chest wall.

Opposite that are the forge and smelters.

Alongside the smelters are the kilns.

Opposite the kilns are the stairs to the Loft.

The loft is kept smoke free thanks to the lifted roof. Also, guard rails have been placed along the Ventilation Hole™ to prevent babby Vikings from falling into the fire.

Also located in the loft is a nice area to eat your berries and shrooms.

Let's go out the back door, shall we?

Out back is our piggie enclosure. I count 4 little ones in this picture, that's 2 more than I previously saw! Somebody is busy!

Thanks for visiting! I hope you enjoyed my garbage photography skills!

This game is so much better than it has any right to be. I love how it's naturally slid my friends and I into separate roles.

One guy is real into farming and making foods.

One is obsessive about organization and making sure things are in proper order and look nice.

One is mostly into combat and farming mats.

I've settled into the boat captain and general scout role to find us new poo poo and new places to populate.

If you have a group to play with I can't recommend it enough, it's been great having other people pick up the slack on the areas I don't enjoy and vice versa.

Is there an easier way to build supports underneath a floor so it doesn't cave in? I am trying to build a thing over water but trying to eyeball the top of the support pillars so they match up with the platform above it barely works.

Build a support next to where one should attach to the underside of a floor, then aim another at the side of the first and it should snap to the floor.
