I didn't play Twilight Princess until I was on Wii U, and then the Wii U rerelease came out and I bought that and played it again, cuz I loved it. ...not gonna get Skyward Sword

im probably going to try out skyward sword this summer. wish it had been wind waker, but i've never given SS a serious attempt. but... there are a poo poo ton of good games on the horizon. i guess i'll wait and see how the analog stick sword controls work out.

but i do remember thinking when the switch came out and the joycons were so accurate that this is what they needed for Skyward Sword. in that respect it was ahead of the tech.

They have the others ported to wiiu already so probably a bundle or a bit later but they’re easy to do. SS had to be translated from wiimotion plus whereas TP already had GameCube version

skyward sword is worth playing if you haven't. the boss fights are almost all good and the overworld basically being a dungeon was interesting. it just made some weird choices that make it probably the least fun 3d zelda to replay.

I also think it's fine for at least 1 replay because Hero mode is actually a little challenging. The only ways to heal are limited potion slots, sleeping, or finding a chair to sit on lol

I remember liking most of the dungeons and the puzzles were more physics/logic based which is a bridge to the Shrines in BOTW. Like in the first dungeon an obstacle is to find a way to hit a skulltula from behind to kill it, it's not signposted as a puzzle and it's something more intuitive than "push a block into a certain spot", I thought that was a nice approach to game design

skyward sword isnt bad for a zelda game its just bad. its nothing but the most awful filler rear end bullshit in the same 3 areas until you finally hit a dungeon thats a floor and a half big and then youre back to the awful filler

i don't think that's being fair to it. it's more on rails but the overworld area isn't filler, it's a series of puzzles to solve just like any zelda dungeon.

Only thing I'm willing to admit is filler is imprisoned 2, the areas always change in cool ways when you have to revisit them. The zones are basically pre dungeon before you get to the actual dungeon the first time you visit them.

for the 25% of the time youre on the overworld doing something like the lanayru time bubble stuff, the other 75% of the time you're dowsing or picking up banjo kazooie notes or doing a ps2 shovelware tier escort/stealth mission or fighting the same boss 5 times which is also to say nothing of needing to trudge through the entirely empty sky to get to any of it. it's trash

Skyward Sword is the game that finally shook Zelda out of complacency and gave us more open ended and excellent games like Link Between Worlds and BotW. It sucks in most ways but it was a necessary and good moment in zelda history

the worst thing about the design choices in skyward sword is that hyrule historia is filled with like 12 better designs they drew and then threw away in favor of that. there's one that's just like that zelda but with a hairband and for some reason it looks way better.
