Apparently I somehow missed a luxury chest in Qingxe right up until now? I just have my Liyue compass out and I'm all the time mashin' on it, so when it started pinging on the climb up to the peak I was surprised, and then there was just a landing with a luxury chest in the shade of a tree, simple as.

Also jesus christ adventurer bro are you TRYING to get people killed, or are three geoshivap hatchlings and a ruin hunter your idea of a fun adventure?

If you want to use Fischl, I'd replace Diona with Xiangling. Ningguang's normal attacks track pretty well and you can actually get gravity damage with her by comboing off of an overload explosion with the gate + several auto attacks + ult to juggle enemies in the air high enough to have them suffer fall damage when they fall.

yeah overall the content in this patch is subpar I'd say. the quests are all pretty annoying, and the rewards are tiny. Lol at having to do 5 quests to get less than one wish. Also, the festival fever filling up seems to do nothing? Whats the point?

To me it's obvious why they wont use the playable characters, they dont want to pay for VA. It sucks, but that's life. However, are they really not going to have a keqing story quest? I've enjoyed pretty much all of them. I wish they'd make them for every character.

I'm not too surprised by this patch's lameness, because of chinese new year. I really hope that 1.4 lives up to dragonspine which I thought was excellent. I don't mind waiting 3 months for real new content, but more than 4 is pushing it.

Pretty sure you're just not the target audience here. Both of these are basically 'check out this scenery' and I suspect the peak and that one viewing spot next to Dandy are to lead more casual players to find them in an otherwise mostly 'quiet' area.

I guess so. It's just that the summit spot is so pointlessly out of the way and there is nothing of value there if you've already done the quest there (which I did, many months ago), and the scenery checks in the area around Qingce annoyed me because i literally go through there multiple times av week as part of my Jueyun Chili run.

I found the new map so much easier. I couldn't get enough damage to kill the graders on rhythmic echoes but with the new map you can just spam electro with a few pyro (one cluster in front of gate to handle the right side, one cluster down the bridge on the left to handle left side) and drop rocks with geo MC to handle ruin hunters. The hunters seemed like the only hard part.

Same. I placed one booster in top mid, then water, double electro and pyro around it and then worked around - water and electro below stairs, fill the route with some electro/pyro/water and put mine and pyro/electro at the exit.

I have Ganyu for cryo application, but tbh even when I spaced out, the best the enemies could do was reach the mine once - and that was speedy mitachurls. Lack of cryo also helps with falling into cryo upgrade trap, all other elemental towers are so much better.

Also hunters trip on mine too, don't be afraid to use it, especially upgraded.

I'm not cantankerous, I just don't like pointless tedium for the sake of tedium. Even if I'm playing a game to waste time, don't waste my time.

You already see those little pieces of the world I mentioned in the giant quests, too, at some point or another. It would have been different if they had bothered changing how it looked for Lantern Rite Festival, but they didn't.

In contrast, they have you go to the same cliff multiple times at the harbor and I was never bothered by that because the scenery for that was gorgeous and new. I'm sad it won't look like that year round. The Mingxiao Lantern cutscene was so pretty that I want to go back and watch it again.

I missed a few days due to storm-based power outages (which happened the day after I bought a new welkin pass, naturally). How long do I have to complete the quests and tower defense content? I see the store closes in like 15 days but the events usually close a few days beforehand, so I just want to make sure I know the real deadline.

I just finished the first 9 quests and unlocked the second phase of tower defense.

There are pretty much three quests in the game - going around talking to people, giving someone some small amount of items that you already have 1000 of like "I need 3 fowl", or blowing up hilichurl camps. None of those are very interesting but at least the hilichurl camps take 10 seconds. I would rather have 4 hilichurl camp dailies than needing to make medicine for the old guy from the nun in the church or escort a balloon. I have seen this little story vignette 20 times, I have better things to do than slowly walk behind a balloon when the mobs don't even have enough dps to kill it if I let them beat on it. Main quests are just chaining a few together. <New banner 5*> needs to get to town, but a hilichurl camp is blocking the bridge, I need you to go and remove the camp!

Xiangling's story quest was imo the best one. Good writing/premise, weird/funny in intriguing ways (cooking an extinct boar, draff's ancestor's horrible situation), special instance with boss, cooking fetch quest with a timer that taught you a cool recipe, also one of my favorite characters.

The event mostly sucked, but at least I wasn't under any illusion of it being good when one of the first quests was literally named "City of Chores".

Who are the characters that never appear in any quest? Chongyun, Noelle, Xinyan, Beidou, and Diona? Diona and Xinyan I'll give them a pass since they are four stars that were added after release, and arguably the most excusable, but I don't remember ever seeing the other three. I mean, at least Beidou's ship is in the game, better than nothing I guess.

Hm, I got Xiao on his banner, and pulled Jean on the perma-banner. I was going to save for an eventual Venti rerun since my only bow right now is Amber, but if I do get lucky on that one I feel like I'd be overloaded on Anemo, especially since they're my only 5*s, and the spreadsheet has both Xiao and Venti as DPS and not support.

Idk what spreadsheet you're looking at but Venti is almost always a support. Anyone calling him a DPS is just confusing the issue because he's only good for E and Q no matter what you're doing with him.

Well, some wear % HP or whatever. I recall the Venti page used to have tabs for both a dps and support setup where with support they recommended stats like EM over normal DPS stuff, but that got deleted because I guess it was worse.

Everyone knows venti is a support, its just that his damage numbers are still busted in the sense that he can pull carry levels of damage with just his Q and his tapped E generates a lot of energy for something on such a low cooldown

No Wave

EM was still DPS, Venti's math is complicated because he gets 7 swirls off his Q.

The term DPS isn't meaningful given that most characters are responsible for dealing damage but what people generally mean by it is on-field DPS, ie, left-clicker. What "DPS Venti" comps generally meant was not having a left-clicker on the team at all but I think that's just confusing and it's more clear to think of them as 4 support comps.

I do agree it's weird the trailer contains so many playable characters but then the event doesn't have any beyond Xiao. It's like they recognized that people would be more interested in an event that featured playable characters (it looks like the main complaint online about the event), then didn't put them in for some reason.

Yeah I wonder if it's a contractual issue or possibly a branding concern about having the playable characters appear without voiced dialogue.
It's a very bizarre choice otherwise, it seems natural that you might want to check in with them during events and have them comment on it, like you would in any normal RPG.

(snip)

At this point I'm pretty certain Genshin's entire life cycle is going to be alternating Good Updates where they add new exploration and Meh Updates where they add filler designed to keep people's attention for the 2-8 months it takes to actually implement new overworld regions. 1.1 gets a bit of a pass because they snuck in the finale to the Liyue main storyline but a lot of patch was more about fairly tedious combat challenges or fetch quests in existing areas, and adding QoL things that didn't make it into 1.0 launch. 1.2 was super good but I don't think they'll ever have patches like 1.2 regularly available every six weeks no matter how big the studio is, so on the whole we'll probably have more patches like 1.3 where it's mostly minimum-effort filler. Putting aside tower defence for a moment the entirety of this event was adding some decorations to one section of Liyue, one pre-rendered cutscene with no VA, ~30 fetch quests when the story quests are counted along side lantern tales, and a bunch of free stuff to ease the disappointment. I guess they also added a boss which isn't worth fighting unless you have the specific characters that use the drop, because it takes twice as long to kill as alternatives.

Picking tower defence back up again, credit where credit is due it's really good. It can't carry a patch by itself which will keep 1.3 in the Meh tier for me, but it worked for at least a couple weeks. If I'm being honest I expect 1.4 to be similarly thin and only in 1.5 when Chasm launches will they recapture some of the Dragonspine magic.

No Wave
Sep 18, 2005

HA! HA! NICE! WHAT A TOOL!
1.4 will be interesting because the rumor is it was added when they were behind schedule for the chasm. So it won't be the highest effort patch, but it may be the first content designed after players had started playing the game.

TD is high effort but a lot of the less work-intensive things like tower balance and economy management werent well done. Most of the games I play are lower budget so I'm used to the opposite where devs try to take their tiny pool of art assets as far as they can.
