the main thing you need to know about the two michaels is that it was retaliation for a chinese executive whos being held in canada for extradition and whose very existence is completely ignored anytime this comes up because it calls attention to how hypocritical this entire situation is

Look Canada has an extradition treaty with USA, and our government decided not to tell USA to gently caress off. So everyoneg gets to sit under arrest. Although at least the executive gets to sit in her own million dollar home.

There's also very little doubt that they are actual spies.

Why always bring up the million-dollar home? The reason US wanted to grab her is because she is direct kin of the company founder, who runs a 100 billion business. Should she buy a 2-bedroom apartment near the airport?

Also, on the subject of the Michaels, one of them belong to the "International Crisis Group", I always assumed it was some kind of bullshit NGO that use the NGO cover to collect intelligence. But after checking out their youtube channel, I conclude that they do some work in Africa and selected third world countries.

This is a pretty decent think tank talk on Myanmar, the guy pretty much explained why the Myanmar election system is flawed and ignore the election right of most of the ethnic minority groups. And interestingly, it's ICG's only video on Myanmar. The world really don't care about Myanmar that much.

I am not saying bitcoin will replace the dollar, I am saying if the US don't actively outlaw cryto business and also keep printing unlimited amount of USD to get stay out of more financial crisis, some international capital will get together and push a viable global trading e-currency. Right now the best candidate is e-rmb but China is not ready to trade huge volume of rmb outside of china, because they want to have more control of the rmb, and the US will actively sabotage every e-rmb application in world trade.

But if bitcoin is legal and it open the door of legal crypto payment in a lot of payment platforms, then its going to be very easy to start a new e-currency back by some major international capitals. It could be back by Saudi Arabia-UAE-paypal-VISA-Softbank-Elon Musk and it can be based on some tangible things such as energy. Make 1 energy bux represent 1kw or 1k BTU energy or something. It can be adopted very fast. You guys make it sound like using dual currency is very cumbersome in daily life. No actually a lot of lovely countries with high inflation already deal with dual currency in their everyday life, it's not big deal. You just switch from paper money to bio protected wallet on your phone.

indigi posted:

oh sorry I’m only talking about Bitcoin and it’s particular limitations. e-rmb or some other sanely-constructed e currency is totally viable to compete with or displace USD on a medium to long term timeline

Because posters in this thread think it's cool to put rich people under house arrest.

So Philippines's presidential election is 1 term only like S Korea right? Does the politic swing back and fore like S Korea too? I heard Duterte wants to pass the torch to his daughter? What's the odd of Philippine swing back to pro-US again next year?

One term of six years. 2016 was the last one, so 2022 is next. Official campaign season starts Q1 next year, polls in May, new President takes office June 30.

Yes, Sara Duterte, the daughter, is almost certainly running.

Aquino, before Duterte, was a liberal. Arroyo, before Aquino, was a conservative (think Bush or Thatcher)

I'd say we have one chance in three of getting a liberal president (Leni Robredo) again after next year's elections. There is a back-and-forth nature to politics, but the liberal party is especially weak - think Biden if Trump didn't gently caress up COVID.

Other potential presidential winners besides Duterte the Younger and Robredo include Ferdinand Marcos Junior, and Manny Pacquiao.
