I love hearing Paul Gilbert discus technique, practice, theory, musical pedagogy, etc but I can't stomach more than 30 seconds of his music.

I love his gear walkthrough where he talks about how he has a small-scale guitar tuned in octaves on a stand that he just does a single one-hand solo on as part of the act, but goddamnit the song is just lovely wankery.

The wankery is the best part. Omg what are you guys even saying? I could, and have, listened to that man noodle for days on end. He's lovely when he talks but his music is magical. Noooo I'm going to go hug my Fireman and weep for you guys while I listen to Scarified on repeat. Monsters.

Apparently he's nice enough to put whole Racer X albums up on his YouTube! https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLkeQOxTv_9rjds540QeBoR9wTwg36oUYL I'm giving Second Heat a listen, but it sounds a lot... harsher? More flat? Trebbly and lacking bass? Compared with Street Lethal and Technical Difficulties, anyway. Is that just the upload, or was it just mastered like that? (Or just me?)

Second Heat is kind of all over the place. I have an original pressing of the vinyl and it's amazing and rich. The tape I have didn't hold up well, but it definitely sounded great in 1991. A couple of the songs, most especially Moonage Daydream just always sounded like the sound was turned down a little and Gilbert hosed with his pedal board right before recording. Also it was meant to sound "bar gritty" or some poo poo so it was kinda washy. The release of the CD somewhere around 1995 had a bad master used that was lightly degraded and that's what ends up on the internet. Spotify and Pandora have better recordings of it than youtube. And like everything Gilbert does the live versions sound better even if it was recorded at a lovely club.

Epic give away games for free as an incentive to load up their launcher. It works on me and I periodically see what they are offering. Just browsing their store I had an "old man shouts at cloud" grumble in my head that I wish they would just use a "real" currency to show their prices as I couldn't figure out how good/bad the deals were. "I don't care about your stupid epic bucks". Going into the options to change it I realised that the symbol was actually for japanese yen which I had somehow never seen before.

The classic Golden Book story about the toy Tugboat is called 'Scuffy'. I've called it 'Scruffy' my entire life, from having it read to me as a small child to reading it to my own children. Not once did the lack of an 'r' register.

Like you, I thought it was a bad thing and related to "weals" which is a "a ridge on the flesh raised by a blow". In short, English is stupid.
