I love that it was only last year that the long lost Evangelion AIDS PSA was finally unearthed by cool youtube lady Red Bard getting in touch with Asuka's VA, who found the only tape of it ever made tucked away and let her put it out into the world. This PSA, funded by the state of Houston, features some pretty on it audio of Shinji and Asuka loving, to have a message about safe sex. "The AIDS PSA was commissioned by the city of Houston in order to spread awareness of safe sex. Spencer (Shinji) was commissioned to work on the project, asked Grant (Asuka) to join him and then the two recorded their lines together. Grant and Spencer were supposed to grunt and make "sex noises" in order to sound like two teenagers having unprotected sex, all while a narrator narrated over them. However, because the sex noises were "too realistic," the PSA never aired. The only copy was given to Grant on tape, which she lost somewhere in her house. Years later, Youtuber Red Bard was investigating the PSA for a video and reached out to Grant. Grant had by this time found the tape during a move, went to digitize the audio, and then gave the audio to Bard to post online. Which she did."

I'm all for dubs because adaptation in general fascinates me and what is a dub but an adaptation for another language audience? How well does a story come across when context or colloquial traditions need to be adapted for people with no prior knowledge? It's a neat process and it's why I'm generally okay with dubs taking liberties with the source material (most of the time)

translation is always adaptation and there's no such thing as a 100% faithful translation (because of word choice and cultural connotations and the like) but also people are in their right to dislike a dub for choices they made that differ from the original

I'm ride or die on dubs over subs unless they don't eliminate the honorifics when it's in English. I don't know why but I can't stand hearing 'Horie-kun' or 'Sakura-san' or whatever when I'm watching an anime, it just infuriates me. I have never played a Yakuza game in english. The dub for 7/LAD is pretty drat good though it gets slightly jarring when characters from the old games show up and you're used to their Japanese voices.

Literally the only reason anyone comes away from EoE thinking is nihilistic is because of the last scene which is extremely loving raw, but is easily misinterpreted as being nihilistic when it’s more just a coda to shinji and asuka’s relationship in the only way they could have one
