Just got around to trying the updated System Shock remake demo and it's still bloody great. They've added the cyber space stuff and also there's way more SHODAN. What I really love is how much effort they've put into making it look like the old chunky game. Lovely! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtNWQZVshek

Dark souls 3 is the best single player game of all time. Pick a weapon and use it. It’s so loving impressive how they made different weapons do different poo poo from each other. Even if you have same build stat wise as someone, using a different weapon will vastly change how you play the game. Pvp isn’t bad, don’t level past about level 125 if you wanna play with or against people. If you play just the vanilla game first you’ll be about level 90 at the final boss so you don’t even have to be worry about it IMO summoning only sucks if you beat down on a boss without even learning the mechanics. But that goes away at higher levels and with dlc bosses. Even if you summon players you’ll need some knowledge or the mechanics to stay alive.

Schlong Connery posted:Like someone else said, pokemon as a concept peaked at the second gen. But they really didn't get the combat right until much later when they split the types of damage attacks did. Before that it was kind of nonsensical. Of course the early games had lots of other things wrong with the combat 2nd gen had 80% of its monsters be essentially useless, extremely short routes, a nonsensical level curve. I like Johto a lot but theres definitely a huge amount of nostalgia coloring that (it was my first pokemon game).

I just slammed through all of Max Payne 3 today. First time I had played it in a few years and it’s aged way better than a lot of shooters from that same era. I’m not sure the fact the major complaint about it, that it’s not a “Max Payne” story, is actually a bad thing. It uses Max and his story really well by dropping him and his history into a completely different genre and works really well with the “completely out of his element” thing he has going on.

Not to bring it back to miniatures as like a "bitching about miniatures games" thing but I will say this for 40K. It's dumb, but even without going into weird sex or gore stuff, it's not nearly the worst. https://store.wildwestexodus.com/wwx-root/82256-pride-of-the-nekomata-detachment This is for a game centered around the aftermath of a scifi alternate history version of the american civil war that is very sympathetic to the south, and the indigenous faction has magic werewolf type poo poo. I think pokemon would benefit from having a hard mode, the battle system has a lot of cool stuff you never use because it’s a lot of one-hit KO’s. Like, why would I use a low-accuracy OHKO move like Horn Drill when I can just use one of my regular moves and one hit KO with 100 percent accuracy because I have a same type attack bonus plus a type advantage? Same result but this one has 95 percent accuracy instead of 35 percent, and I can use it 20 times instead of 5. Or why use something to decrease my opponent’s accuracy when I can take them out in one move?
